Some more information should be add to the article "Linux"
In the article, when we say about kernel, we never use "linux" itself, but using "Linux kernel" to express the meaning. However, the article does not point it out. In the second paragraph:"The term Linux properly refers to just the operating system kernel itself". And the article should be particularly pointed out that how to express "kernel".Applelinux (talk) 05:53, 25 December 2012 (UTC)

- You are right. The first sentence should not be modified, so we can describe "A Linux-based OS". How about add some imformation to the article to describe the relationship among Linux, Linux OS, Linux kernel(or just linux itself) and Linux-based OS.
- Although "a Linux-based OS" is more accurate than "Linux OS", but we always talk about Linux as an OS.
- If you Google "Linux oprerating system", there are about 150,000,000 results, and 66,200,000 results about "Linux OS" , while 21,000,000 results about "Linux-based operating system" and 42,600,000 results about "Linux-based OS".Dose it indicates that the "Linux OS" is more common than "Linux-based OS".
- We also talk about "Linux distros" (that is true Linux-based OSs) as linux rather than linux-based. Otherwise, when I read all the article, I still do not know "What is Linux OS", because the article does not describe "Linux OS". The article pointed out that "Linux is often refers to Linux Linux Distribution", but where is "Linux OS"(in the original article before Ranunculoid modified the article, we discribe "Linux" as an OS, we can clearly sure what is Linux OS.) And Linux OS is actually quite popular.I think the article should be discribe it.The following is for reference only.
- In the first paragraph:
- We can discribe the relationship between a Linux-based OS and Linux OS. Maybe we can add the massages:
- The Linux-based operating system is usually abbreviated as Linux operating system or Linux.
- There are two article as follows:
- Linux.org:Linux is an operating system that evolved from a kernel created by Linus Torvalds.[is linux]
- Linux.com:Linux is, in simplest terms, an operating system.[[1]]
- In the second paragraph:
- The term Linux properly refers to just the operating system kernel itself, but generally using ‘Linux kernel’ to express the meaning.
- If we don't give the information, how can the all article say about kernel using "Linux kernel"?
- Merry Christmas to you.
