Al-Ameen Educational Society was started in the year 1966 to meet the needs of education in the city and of minority Muslim community.[1] Dr.Mumtaz Ahmed Khan is the founder of al-Ameen Educational Society.[2] Number of social workers supported his for staring and establishing around 20 branches of Al-Ameen Educational Society and 142 institutions throughout India. Y.Azeez Ahmed is the Assistant Secretary and the Special Office of Al-Ameen Educational Society.[3] Set up in 1968 with a meagre 54 students by the visionary founder, Dr.Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, the Al-Ameen group of Institutions now number more than 140 in Karnataka and all over the country. Be it in education or health care, the Al-Ameen Education Society has mushroomed to cater to the society in big measure.[4]

History

Dr.Mumtaz Ahmed Khan is the founder of Al-Ameen Educational Society.[5][6]. At the age of 31, in 1966 Khan founded the Al-Ameen Movement. He had decided to name it The Bangalore Educational Society. He was advised against this by his friend Khader Hussein who suggested Al-Ameen Educational Society as a reference to the title given to Prophet Muhammad which meant The Trustworthy. Hussein later became the principle of Saboo Siddiq Polytechnic, Bombay. Abbasiya Begum, a female member of the Karnataka Legislative Council was elected the first chairperson of this society.

Activities

Planning Commission of India member Dr Syeda Saiyidain Hameed was awared Al-Ameen All India Community Leadership Award - 2006 by the Secretary, Chairman and Vice Chairman on 23 January 2007.[9]
