NC 83 begins and ends at [[North Carolina Highway 130|NC 130]] and [[U.S. Route 15-501 in North Carolina|US 501]]. However, by 1947 the road was extended to our current northern terminus of NC 130. Crossing over the historic terminus, the road goes about three more miles to the [[North Carolina]]-[[South Carolina]] border. This is about {{convert|5|mi|km}} north of [[Clio, South Carolina]].
