    Incorrect title Olle road

The title for this page should be Jeju Olle Trail — Preceding unsigned comment added by Violinpatrick (talkcontribs) 00:08, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You can request a move at WP:RM, but is Olle road the common name? RudolfRed (talk) 00:30, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Olle Road is not a common name. This entry is the only example of it being referred to as 'road'. In official literature, it is is called 'trail' or the Korean word 'gil'.121.145.161.164 (talk) 02:28, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Email

How do I email an article on Wikipedia to another interested party? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Virginiarebel (talkcontribs) 00:39, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just copy the URL of the article you are reading from your browser's window, and paste it into the body of your e-mail. --65.30.42.159 (talk) 04:07, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Emailing the link is usually the best option, but you can also use the 'Print/export' option on the menu (← see, left) to create a PDF that could be sent as an attachment. 74.60.29.141 (talk) 04:22, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Note that the first method is dynamic while the second method is static. That is, any later changes will show up when they click on the link, but not if you've made a PDF of it as it is now. StuRat (talk) 05:23, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

<Unsourced negative information about possibly living people removed> — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.196.130.85 (talk) 04:38, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Mr Harris. I have removed your contribution completely, because it contains unsourced negative information about people who may be living, contrary to our policy on WP:Biography of living persons. This is not in order to censor you: such information may be included in an article, if it is referenced to a reliable published source, and if the consensus is that it is appropriate in the article.
What I suggest you do is to post on Talk:Banksy the information you would like added to the article, with the reliable independent sources that verify it, and ask other editors to add it to the article. Information which is only from your personal knowledge, or from unpublished sources, is not acceptable in Wikipedia, especially if it refers to living people. --ColinFine (talk) 00:42, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    editing rejected

Greek Helsinki Monitor (GHM) introduced an update in the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Romani_rights_cases_before_international_courts_and_quasi-judicial_bodies#cite_note-3 with the missing Roma cases GHM has been successful with in these courts or bodies but it was rejected - what a pity! we do not have time to do that again and anyway we do not understand why it was rejected — Preceding unsigned comment added by Greek Heslinki Monitor (talkcontribs) 09:06, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

List of Romani rights cases before international courts and quasi-judicial bodies (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
I see that you have discovered how to re-instate your edit. Your edits have made the table very hard to understand - the markup for tables is quite tricky and is very unforgiving. Each row of this table is defined by exactly five lines of markup:
    |-
    | text to appear in the month/year column
    | text to appear in the ECHR case (application no.) column
    | text to appear in the year column
    | text to appear in the Case (UN treaty body) column

If you can't see how to fix up your edits, it might be better to undo them and explain your intention on the talk page, Talk:List of Romani rights cases before international courts and quasi-judicial bodies, so that another editor can do it.
I have removed ClueBot's warning message from your talk page, as I think the software made a mistake, and have left you some introductory links instead. -- John of Reading (talk) 17:17, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Volunteer?

For some reason Template:Autobiography/doc seems to attract narcissists who believe it's where they're supposed to record their life story for our collective benefit. The latest befuddled editor to do so is User:Passy975 who blessed us all with his very own autobiography (which was reverted) and in his latest installment has treated us to a synopsis of his latest novel—a thriller, of course! Delete revesion i made

How to made a deletion of a revision that I made, without leave athe ugly grey record of page history and my contributions records. Estartenf843h3er201105 (talk) 16:28, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

For most pages this can't be done, since Wikipedia's licensing requires that every edit be attributable to its editor. There are very limited exceptions, described here and here. However, if you are asking about a page in your own user space, for example your user page, then you can ask for the page to be deleted entirely by adding {{db-u1}} at the top. Once an administrator has deleted it, you will be able to recreate it with a fresh history. Your edits to the deleted page will not show in your contributions list. -- John of Reading (talk) 17:03, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What if i want to only remove ONE revision only of a page in your own user space.Estartenf843h3er201105 (talk) 09:41, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have looked through your contributions to "User" and "User talk" pages, and can't see anything that could fall under the limited exceptions (revision deletion, oversight). If I've missed something, feel free to send a private request via Requests for oversight. Don't post any more details here. -- John of Reading (talk) 11:15, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you have an improvement to make to an article, preferably with a reference to a reliable published source, which you say you have, you are welcome to edit the article. If you don't feel confident in doing that, it is best to edit the article's talk page to add the suggestion just as you have done here, so that editors who are interested in that article may make use of your contribution. --ColinFine (talk) 00:53, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

HI, My name is Stephen ANdrew Moller and i just wanted to let you know that there is an article in your wikipedia saying that i am a murderer and that i hit someone because they were gay. We have a pretty heavy law suit going on now for slander and i was asked to contact the publishers or the publishers site and ask for it to be removed before further action is taken. In the final reading of the case i plead guilty to involuntary manslaughter. I then served 2 years in confinement. The reason that i hit Sean was because he hit me first. This is where the problem came form in the very beginning, the first on site of the investigation they did not know what happened. They assumed that was the reason. IT then took three months for a video of the whole thing to be sent in to law enforcement. Then they seen where i was struck in the face first threw a car window and then i got out and hit back one time!!!!! IT is not fair for my name to be slandered all over the site for some woman to receive funds supporting gays and lesbians. THere were several there documents that were turned in from other people who knew Sean's mother and Step father, THey kicked him out of the house because he was gay. Also the mother didn't even wait but 12 hours before she pulled the plug on her son. Also it was never stated in the papers but there was another girl who picked Sean up and dropped him on his head three times. THe FBI even said that it was not a hate crime and they dismissed the charge of a hate crime. It was then published by Paul Salviggio that it was not anything to do with the victim being gay. Please assist me in this manner getting the changes on your site. THanks a lot and Merry Christmas!!!! I would like to add my magazine, titled Mugwumps to your listing, both in the disambiguation page and as an entry. We have been around since 1971, 11 years as a print magazine and since then as www.Mugwumps.com online.76.19.241.50 (talk) 07:27, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If (and only if) your magazine meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability - in short, that reliable sources, independent of it have written in depth about it, then there may be an article about it in Wikipedia, and it may appear in lists and disambiguation pages. However, as you have a conflict of interest, you should not be the person to write such an article. I suggest you research to find the references required, and if you can find them, post a request either at requested articles, or perhaps at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Magazines. But please don't pursue it until there are such references, as you will be wasting your time. --ColinFine (talk) 11:56, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There Is A Former Logo For Current WWOD And I Think It Would Work Wonders For "Archiving" Purposes To Post This Logo Onto The Article For WWOD. The Listen Live Link For WWOD Was The Source Of This Former Logo 98.229.132.126 (talk) 10:07, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not an archive. We don't just gather every bit of information and every image related to a subject. Also, the logo is copyrighted by, most likely, the radio station and would need a good justification for being used in the article under a fair use claim. "Good" meaning not just to archive the existence of the logo of some barely notable radio station. Dismas|(talk) 14:21, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Catch a fleeting redirect...

    Hello,

When I discovered that List of flying aces in Arab-Israeli wars directed to List of Israeli flying aces, I read that article's Talk page and began combing through my aviation files. I found enough information, with cites, to create List of Egyptian flying aces and List of Syrian flying aces. This means the redirect List of flying aces in Arab-Israeli wars is doubly incorrect. The redirect should lead to a disambiguation page containing these three links. Unfortunately, I lack the skills for catching this fleeting phony indirect page and correcting this situation. Could you please help me solve this dilemma, for the good of WP?

    Georgejdorner (talk) 16:12, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

When you've just been redirected, "(Redirected from List of flying aces in Arab-Israeli wars)" appears under the heading. If you click that link (or the one I've just posted), you'll be able to edit the redirect and create your disambiguation page. Hello. I have been disturbed a lot and felt sad in my real life for plenty of edits on wikipedia using my real name. I left that account. Now i dont want it to be serchable on Google either. If I google my name, I feel ashamed. Whoever googled it so far has misunderstood me, from near ones to relatives. Please tell me how talk pages, history pages, FAC or GAC pages can be hidden from google. If any admin or burocrat can do it, please tell me so. I know my name as a Wiki editor will never vanish completely from Google search but I want to minimise such results. Helpers believe me it is possible. I ll contact anyone you suggest. Since contact details on this page are not allowed, I also have a FB account to use and contact anyone privately. But please help me remove my name from the Wiki.

    CAPTCHA/Updating James H Fetzer

I have tried to update the entry for the conspiracy theorist James H Fetzer to include his "theories" about Dept. of Homeland Security and Mossad involvement in the Sandy Hook school massacre. I have completed my amendments to the entry, but every time I try to save the changes and complete the CAPTCHA box, the CAPTCHA box reappears with a new code. This is my first time making an entry; am I missing something???

for what it's worth, here is my attempted entry:

Mossad Involvement in SandyHook School Massacre

In a PressTV column Fetzer accused Mossad of carrying out the Sandy Hook school massacre, as part of a Department of Homeland Security plot to confiscate civilian weapons as part of a process of "gearing up to conduct a massive civil war against the American people." [1] Claiming that "the killing of children is a signature of terror ops conducted by agents of Israel," Fetzer further linked the Mossad's alleged role in the killings at Sandy Hook to alleged Mossad involvement in the Utøya massacre by Anders Behring Brevik. In the Utøya massacre, Mossad was taking revenge for Norway's support for sanctions on Israel. In the case of Sandy Hook, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyanhu was purportedly angered by American failure to approve military strikes on Iran. [2]

    References

You get the CAPTCHA box every time you save an edit which includes an external link. You should only get the 2nd CAPTCHA if the 1st one was incorrect. 74.60.29.141 (talk) 18:30, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What article do you mean? --Orange Mike | Talk 16:31, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There is no mention of SASS in Comparison of programming languages so I guess you mean another article. Is it Comparison of programming languages (syntax)? SASS is mentioned twice there. The first mention is linked like this: SASS. Both mentions are in perfect agreement with http://sass-lang.com/docs/yardoc/file.SASS_REFERENCE.html#comments so I don't see a problem. What exactly do you think is incorrect? If the problem is that you didn't know there is a language called SASS then note that terms are often linked the first time they occur in an article. Simply click the link "SASS" to see there is a language of that name. Or use the search box at top of any page, or an external search engine. For example Google Search where http://sass-lang.com is the first hit for SASS, and our own article is the third. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:10, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    "Common Knowledge" Citations

If a piece of information is considered to be "common knowledge" (ex. "Snowmen are made of snow."), does it need to be cited? Thank you. Henrib736 (talk) 16:59, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If it is truly common knowledge, and no one is likely to dispute it, then it does not need a citation unless someone disputes it or it would violate WP:BLP policy without one. Note though, that if someone is asking for a citation, just give them one rather then arguing over whether its common knowledge. Monty845 17:11, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(EC)I'm going to try to provide a balanced perspective here... I fear that the answer you'll get will ultimately depend on the editor you're talking to, the phase of the moon, your credit score, and any sunspot activity at the time. To me, it's always boiled down to, "Not everything needs to be cited...but if an editor challenges material then it usually is best to cite it, and if it remains uncited then removing it may ultimately prove to be an appropriate course of action." Relevant policies include WP:V, WP:BURDEN and WP:MINREF. MINREF discusses what constitutes a legitimate challenge to unsourced material, BURDEN stipulates that once material has been challenged and removed, an editor who wishes to reinsert the material is ultimately responsible for providing an inline citation, and V is everything you'd ever want to know about Wikipedia's Verifiability policies...but these things are in a bit of a state of flux, partly because many editors have differing viewpoints. WP:BLUE and WP:NOTBLUE are two essays (i.e. non-binding opinions) that take opposing viewpoints regarding whether or not it's necessary to cite "everything", and I feel they both have valid points to make. I should note that it's worth considering whether moving the material to the article's Talk page, where interested editors may be able to address it at some point in the future, is preferable to simply deleting it. I hope this helps! Doniago (talk) 17:16, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

AfD for article that clearly meets WP:GNG

I've been on Wikipedia for 3 years or so. I'm not a newbie. But I've created an article, List of Start Menu replacements for Windows 8 which clearly and easily meets WP:GNG:

List of reliable sources independent of the subject to establish notability

Although the article clearly meats WP:GNG, it was nominated for deletion. Most of the complaints against it seem to be because the article is a stub. Yes, it is a work in progress but it can be expanded and improved through the normal editing process. I'm not sure how to respond to arguments that aren't a valid a reason for deletion. The original nominator for AfD has subsequently withdrawn their request yet the AfD remains open. Can someone please look over Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Start Menu replacements for Windows 8 and tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks. • You've done nothing wrong, and there's nothing else you can do. An admin will be along at some point in the indefinite future to close the AFD and make a ruling on the consensus, either to delete the article or to keep it. Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(people)#Titles_and_styles This guideline says to avoid such titles and honorifics, except in very rare cases where the honorific is completely tied to the person (i.e. Mother Theresa). --Jayron32 03:20, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    Thanks. --PlanetEditor (talk) 03:30, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I was wondering about that myself, in regard to Infobox/person. For example, there is an Infobox parameter for honorific prefix; when I put "Dr." in there, it changes the Infobox title to "Dr. Hoozit". However, it seems inappropriate to leave that parameter blank, if that person does indeed have an honorific title, even if it is not most commonly used. Should I remove the "Dr." in such cases? Article with Α (Alpha) rather than A (Latin)

The article Α2-HS-glycoprotein starts with an Alpha, not an A. I know that there are rules against having usernames with characters that look like Latin Letters, but I'm not sure what to do in the case of an article.Naraht (talk) 05:19, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Moved it to A2-HS-glycoprotein, leaving a redirect behind. If someone thinks it's incorrect to have the article name in a place where people can actually type the name, I'd like to hear the argument as to why.—Kww(talk) 06:30, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think the article is mis-titled. I looked at all 9 references. They refer to the compound as:
    • alpha-2HS-glycoprotein
    • Alpha2-HS glycoprotein
    • alpha-2-HS-glycoprotein (primary source)
    • alpha-2-Heremans Schmid-glycoprotein
    • fetuin-A
    • alpha2HS-glycoprotein
    • AHSG
So, it seems, "alpha" is always spelled out with the exception of the acronym AHSG. In that case, it seems perfectly reasonable to use the latin "A", since it's an abbreviation of the English transliteration of the Greek letter ("alpha"), not meant to represent the Greek letter directly (and that letter would be a lower-case "α" by normal naming conventions, and as shown in all but one reference, anyway).
Ref 3 points to the US NIH, which says the official name from HGNC is "alpha-2-HS-glycoprotein" and symbol is "AHSG". I would suggest the article be named that way, with redirects from the other ones as needed. I don't think redirects beginning with the Greek "α" or "Α" are needed. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 07:55, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Good question. You asked what you've to write as your e-mail address. Okay now when you start to write an e-mail to another user

    at first you'll see

    • From:X
    • To:Y
    • Subject:ABC

    Then message.

But over the emailing side there's said Please note. Note that and see what's written in the last line.

It's said Your email address WILL be disclosed to the recipient

So you don't need to write your email address. Your email address will be disclosed to the recipient. Good Luck and Have a good day.--Pratyya (have a chat?) 09:02, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    • If it is about on-wiki e-mail communications, when you navigate to Special:EmailUser/Salvidrim, for example, the "From:" line should already indicate your username and the "To:" line should already indicate my username. Hi, I have recently started manually adding in interlanguage links to WikiProject pages like this. I remember when bots started taking over the job of WP:WPIW, and I tend to rely on them completely, so the fact that these inter-language links seem to require manual editing makes me wonder whether what I'm doing is OK by Wikipedia's rules. Maybe this is more unstable of a practice since the WikiProject structure is sometimes quite different at different Wikipedias. But are there any prohibitions (or guideline discouragements) against IL-linking to other WikiProjects? -Thibbs (talk) 20:34, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The only problem is that you added the links outside noinclude tags so the links were also displayed in pages using the template. I have fixed it.[3] Interlanguage bots don't work completely on their own. At first an editor adds an interlanguage link at some language and then bots copy it to the other languages. I'm not sure "promotional" is really an album type, they're usually either singles or EPs or albums of another type. In the example given it appears to be a live album, Marcella Detroit discography doesn't have a section for them but one can easily be added, {{Infobox artist discography}} can accommodate them. My first edit

Hi, I am a new user and made my first edit and would like to know whether or not it's right. I added Category:Naturalized citizens of Canada to the article Kiefer Sutherland. But he was born in Britain TO Canadian parents. Is he naturalized or already Canadian by his parents? I hope you understand my point. Raykox (talk) 14:22, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    It is ok, in my opinion. Ruslik_Zero 15:46, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(ec)I have reverted your change. As far as I can tell he is Canadian by birth, and so has not gone through the process of naturalization. But in any case, you should not be adding any information, especially about a living person, without a reference to a reliable source. Even if you were certain that a particular person had been naturalized, you should not add that information to Wikipedia without a reliable source that said so specifically. See WP:Verifiability for why this is important. --ColinFine (talk) 15:51, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Human body

I can't seem to find the scientific terminology for 'the body' of a person who is alive Please assist — Preceding unsigned comment added by 105.236.121.24 (talk) 15:38, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is the help desk for Wikipedia, for questions about using and editing Wikipedia. General knowledge questions may be posted at the reference desk (specifically the Science reference desk). But you will need to be more specific about what you want, as your question makes little sense to me. --ColinFine (talk) 15:54, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Special character screen pop-up

This seems now to appear (unwanted) on my screen every time I edit, and it seems to cause a delay of several seconds before my keyboard is able to function. I've not noticed this problem before, it's very irksome. Is this just me or has anyone else noticed this problem? (Lobsterthermidor (talk) 16:46, 29 December 2012 (UTC))[reply]

Do you mean the 'Special characters' toolbar on the edit screen? If so, you can simply close it by clicking on the "▼ Special characters" link on the toolbar. ~E : (talk) 18:05, 29 December 2012 (UTC) Modified:74.60.29.141 (talk) 18:10, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That seems to have done the trick, many thanks. (Lobsterthermidor (talk) 18:46, 29 December 2012 (UTC))[reply]
