Harish Iyer, also known as “Aham”.[1] hiyer and “Harrish Iyer”(born 16 April 1979), is an activist for a number of socio-environmental issues including animal rights, gay rights, environmentalism and victims of child sexual abuse.[2][3] He is an out homosexual.[4] Pink Pages named him one of India’s seven most influential gays and lesbians[5] and one of the ten individuals to be awarded the Zindagi Live Awards for his work in creating awareness on Child Sexual Abuse.[6]


Media Advocacy

Harish Iyer is invited regularly as a leading television panelist on national issues by India’s top anchors Aamir Khan, Richa Anirudh, Barkha Dutt. Harish Iyer was seen with Aamir Khan in the actor’s talk show Satyamev Jayate on the issue of Child Sexual Abuse[7]. The hugely popular show that was high on Television Rating Points catapulted Harish to super-stardom for his frankspeak about his experiences of Childhood Sexual Abuse.[8] Prior to Satyamev Jayate, Harish has been in the panel of NDTV’s popular talk show We The People which is anchored by Barkha Dutt. Prior to that, Harish was seen in Richa Anirudh’s Hindi talk show Zindagi Live. Beyond the show, he is seen to be sharing a very good rapport with the Hosts of these programmes through social media.


His life inspired two films, director Onir’s I Am (2010 Indian film) and Ranadeep Bhattacharya and Judhajit Bagchi directed "Amen". In I Am, Actor Sanjay Suri plays Abhimanyu, a child sexual abuse survivor, the character inspired by Harish’s life[9] and that of Hyderabad based fashion designer Ganesh Nallari. In Amen, actor Karan Mehra plays Harry (Harish Iyer),[10] a young man who is confident about his sexuality but still has the ghosts of his childhood memories of sexual abuse haunting him. A biography on him is being written by Payal Shah Karwa.[11]
