Marian Rivera (born Marian Gracia Rivera on August 12,[1] 1984 [2][3] in Madrid, Spain) is a Filipina commercial model and actress, known for her roles in Marimar, Dyesebel, Darna, and Amaya.[4] As a recording artist, Rivera has released two studio albums: the platinum hits Marian Rivera Dance Hits[5] and Retro Crazy.[6][7] She has also starred in movies that have grossed more than PHP100 million at the box-office such as: My Bestfriend's Girlfriend,[8] You to Me Are Everything,[9] and Panday 2.[10][11][12][13]
Personal life
Marian Rivera was born in Madrid, Spain to Francisco Javier Gracia Alonso, a Spaniard and Amalia Rivera, a Filipina from Cavite.[14] After her parents separated, her mother brought her to the Philippines where she grew up most of her life. She later finished BS Psychology in De La Salle University Dasmariñas. She is still having a relationship with Dingdong Dantes as a couple since MariMar.
Career
Television
Rivera first starred in afternoon soap operas for TAPE Inc. and GMA Network including Kung Mamahalin Mo Lang Ako, Agawin Mo Man Ang Lahat and Pinakamamahal. She was then featured in Enteng Kabisote 2: Okay Ka Fairy Ko: The Legend Continues.[15] Later, GMA Network cast her in a mother role for the afternoon Philippine-Malaysian drama Muli.[16]
In 2007, Rivera formally signed a contract on GMA Network after she was chosen to play the role of MariMar which was originally by Mexican Singer-Actress Thalía. The show became the highest-rated primetime show on Philippine television at that time.[17][18]
In 2008, Rivera played the role of Dyesebel[19] which aired on April 28, 2008. For starring in the most popular TV shows like Marimar and Dyesebel Rivera was given the "Phenomenal TV Star" award by the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation (GMMSF) at the 38th Box-Office Entertainment Awards.[20]
In early 2009, she appeared in her first straight drama series, Ang Babaeng Hinugot Sa Aking Tadyang.[21] Later that year, she was Luckily chosen to give life to the famous Historical Fiction Heroine in the Philippines which is Darna.[22]
In 2010, Rivera, starred in the Philippine Adaptation of Endless Love.[23] She also starred on the Holy Week Drama Special entitled Anghel sa Lupa/Earth Angel produced by APT Entertainment and on the Christmas Series of GMA Network entitled, The Christmas Doll(Int'l Title).
In 2011, Rivera headlined GMA Network's series Amaya.[24]
In 2012, Rivera headlined on different programs of GMA Network such as My Beloved along side with Dingdong Dantes, Tweets For My Sweet, Extra Challenge with Richard Gutierrez & Boobay, and finally, the most talk-about Philippine Adaptation of the highly recommended Temptation Of Wife.
Films
In 2006, Rivera signed an exclusive contract with Regal Films and was cast in the horror movie, Pamahiin.[25]
A year later, Rivera co-starred in two Metro Manila Film Festival movie entries: Bahay Kubo that was topbilled by Maricel Soriano and Desperadas.[26]
In 2008, Rivera starred with Richard Gutierrez in the romantic comedy movie My Best Friend's Girlfriend' under GMA Films.[27][dead link ]
In December 2008, she starred in two Metro Manila Film Festival Movie Entries such as Shake, Rattle & Roll X, an omnibus horror trilogy movie in which she played the role of Nieves, The Engkanto Slayer & Desperadas 2 ,a sequel from a previous one.
The following year, Rivera starred on the horror movie, Tarot.
In early 2010, Rivera was reunite with Dingdong Dantes in You to Me Are Everything, a romantic comedy movie under GMA Films which was one of Rivera's Highest Grossing Movie. She also starred in her own Metro Manila Film Festival Movie Entry, Super Inday and the Golden Bibe and have been nominated as Best Actress on the previous 36th Metro Manila Film Festival Awards Night.
In early 2011, Rivera was part as one of the lead cast of Regal Entertainment Movie entitled, Temptation Island (after 30 Years of making) and an add-up character to to the Metro Manila Film Festival Movie Entry Ang Panday 2 alongside with Sen.Bong Revilla.[28]
In 2013, Rivera will star with Richard Gutierrez in the upcoming Romantic Comedy Movie entitled My Lady Boss.[29]
Walk of Fame
Rivera was among the third group of stars honored in the Walk of Fame located in Eastwood City, Libis, Quezon City.[30]
