Rebecca 'Beccy' Huxtable (born 12 August 1981)[1] is a British radio personality and producer, best known for her work as an assistant producer and co-host of The Scott Mills Show with Scott Mills on BBC Radio 1. She left the show in January 2013 due to being diagnosed with MS, but plans to stay at the station and will in future work with Aled Jones, presenter of The Surgery with Aled and ex-producer of The Chris Moyles Show.

Early life

Rebecca was born in Taunton, Somerset. She attended Crispin School, going on to study journalism at Bournemouth University. [2]

Radio Career

She gained experience in radio broadcasting at local radio station, 2CR FM.[2][3] She later worked freelance for Virgin Radio, and also briefly as a newsreader.

At BBC Radio 1, Huxtable worked with Sara Cox at weekends, but moved to work with Scott Mills in April 2008 following the departure of his then assistant producer [Laura Sayers]]. She worked with Mills for almost five years before stepping down following long periods of time off due to her health. In an interview she said “I haven’t been on the show full time for a while. A while ago I got MS which is rubbish. I stopped walking, being able to rap. I want to come back to work full time but I can’t do it". Her final show was broadcast live on Friday 18th January 2013.

Awards

In January 2010, Rebecca won the Funniest Radio Sidekick in the Loaded Lafta awards..[4]

Other Works

Rebecca has long been a fan of fiction, and in May 2006 along with Tasmin Mason, she co-wrote the short story Sixty Shades of Gouda. It is unclear whether or not this has any affiliation with E. L. James' cult classic Fifty Shades of Grey.

In 2009, Rebecca was inducted into The Cheese Society's hall of fame for her work in raising the profile of the cheese board.[5] Juliet Harbutt, a Member of Guilde des Fromagers and Organiser of the British Cheese Awards said of Rebecca "her enthusiasm for all things cheese is infectious".

Rebecca turned on the Bridgwater Christmas lights in 2010 live on Radio 1.

Personal life

Rebecca lives in Reading with long-term partner and BBC Radio studio manager, Micky Curling. Rumours about a relationship with The Scott Mills Show co-host Chris Stark surfaced in 2012, a claim that both Huxtable and Stark deny. Stark proposed to Huxtable live on her final show after a long period of on-air sexual tension. Huxtable refused the proposal.
