Bhiwani (Template:Lang-hi) is a city and a municipal council in Bhiwani district in the state of Haryana, India. It is known as the city of temples and often termed as "Choti Kashi". Besides being a seat of spiritual learning, the city has been the centerstage of regional politics. The city is hometown to three of Haryana's chief ministers: Bansi Lal, Banarsi Dass Gupta and Hukum Singh.
District Bhiwani was created on 22 December 1972. The district headquarters is situated in Bhiwani town. Bhiwani has 442 villages, with main towns being Charkhi Dadri, Loharu, Bawani Khera and Tosham. The total area of Bhiwani district is 5,099 km².
The city has been a conventional school of boxing, with almost all of the members of the Indian Boxing Squad coming from its SAI hostel itself. Late Capt. Hawa Singh, the legendary boxer, helped establish the boxing academy here.
Education
In the field of education, the city boasts of six institutes, one of them being the country's top textile research institute, the Technological Institute of Textile & Sciences, established by the prestigious Birla Group. Further, there are four degree colleges (Adarsh Mahila Mahavidyalaya is one of the best college in M.D.U.), three colleges of education and a school of nursing. The Board of School Education, Haryana (Shiksha Board) is also situated in the city. Govt. P.G College is located on Hansi road.

Bhiwani is a railway junction . There are three railway lines originating from Bhiwani; one is towards the northern side.The second line towards south side. The third branch line goes towards Rohtak and connects to Delhi.
Roads
The city is very well connected through state roadways with all the major towns in the region. The city is a chosen favorite as the site for a proposed international airport in the national capital's area to ease operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport at Delhi.

Gauri Shankar temple (Kirorimal temple), Khakhi Baba Temple, Jogi Wala Temple and Devsar wali Maa Temple of Bhiwani are known throughout the country.
Geography
Bhiwani is located at 28°47′N 76°08′E / 28.78°N 76.13°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 225 meters (738 feet).
District Bhiwani is situated between 28.19 deg. and 29.05 deg. north latitude and 75.26 deg. and 76.28 deg. east longitude. The Bhiwani District is bordered by Hissar District on its north, some area of Jhunjunu and Churu districts of Rajasthan on its west, Mahendergarh and Jhunjunu districts on its south and District Rohtak to the east. It is 124 kilometers from Delhi and 285 kilometers from Chandigarh.
Development
Bhiwani was considered a deserted place. Farming could be done with the help of rain. After every two or three years there would be a drought. Men, women, animals and birds suffered due to lack of water and greenery. Things changed when in 1893 a canal was first built in Bhiwani.
It was a religious region, and gradually the people started taking part in politics and the Indian struggle for independence. Neki Ram, Fateh Chand, K.A. Desai and Babu Gupta opened a branch of the Congress party here in 1919. But now many MNCs are looking Bhiwani as potential for there operation.
Satyagraha of Bardoli
In 1922 India's seekers of freedom society took part in the Bardoli Satyagraha. They were Neki Sharma, Uma Sharma, Ram Kumar, Gokul Chand, Fateh Chand, Lala Vith, Lala Karanji, Diwan Chand, Lala Moda, Mansingh Bohra etc. Neki Sharma Later known as Haryana Kesri.
Bhiwani and national leaders
In those days Bhiwani was visited by Pt. Nehru two times, Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya two times and Mahatma Gandhi two times. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Lala Lajpat Rai, Sh. Subash Chandra Bose, Smt. Sarojini Naidu, Dr. Munje, Dr. Ansari, Sh. Asif Ali, Ali Bandhu and Maulana Abdul Ghaffar Khan also came to Bhiwani, took meetings and praised Bhiwani's people for their taking part in the independence war. Sonia Gandhi visited Bhiwani on 28 November 2007 at Bhim Stadium.
Bhiwani is home town of Renowned Freedom Fighter and Social Reformer Late Sh. Banarsi Das Gupta, (former Chief Minister of Haryana, Member of Parliament, Member of Legislative Assembly, Dy. Chief Minister, Speaker of Haryana Assembly and Minister in Haryana Cabinet) who also known for his contribution in Bhiwani by establishing many educational institutions like Adarsh Mahila Mahavidyalya (awarded best women college in Haryana), Vaish educations institutes (PG College, schools), Nature Cure Hospital (Prakritik Chikitsalya) Bhiwani and many more charitable and social organisation.
Bhiwani is the home town of Late Ch.Bansi Lal, former Chief Minister, Defense Minister, Railway Minister and Civil Aviation Minister.Great Ch Bansi Lal is the creater of modern Haryana, he conneted all villages with metalled roads, provided water and electricity to all villages and took water to sandy south Haryana by way of lift irrigation.Govt was very efficient and responsive to common men requiements. What ever ministry he was given in Delhi, suddenly became efficient, such was hid magic. Indeed there was only one Ch Bansi Lal.
The former chief of Army Staff of 1.5 million strong Indian army, General Vijay Kumar Singh is also from Bhiwani (Born: Vil;age Bapora).
Rajputs are very famous in the Bhiwani city.
Bhiwani as India's boxing powerhouse
Bhiwani came to the limelight in 2008 as four of the five boxers who represented India at the 2008 Summer Olympics are from Bhiwani. Sports Authority of India coach and boxer late captain Hawa Singh has been credited with making the Bhiwani Boxing Club or "BBC" as it is known locally, a powerhouse of Indian Boxing.[2] The Academy was established by the legendary Indian boxer, two time Asian Games gold medalist and 11 time national champion, Captain Hawa Singh.[2]
Among the 2008 Olympians, Jitender Kumar (Flyweight) (51 kg) and Akhil Kumar (54 kg) went on to qualify for the quarter finals, while Vijender Kumar (75 kg) won a bronze medal and Vikas Krishan Yadav boxer from Bhiwani district won a gold medal in the 2010 Asian Games in the Lightweight category [3] In last ASIAN Games in China Vijender Singh claimed gold. Bhiwani is known as "Mini Cuba" in India due to the large number of boxers who hail from the region.[2]

Demographics
As of 2001[update] India census,[4] Bhiwani had a population of 169,424. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Bhiwani has an average literacy rate of 69%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 76% and female literacy of 62%. 13% of the population is under 7 years of age.
