Squaresville is an American comedy web series created by Matt Enlow. The show follows best friends Esther (Kylie Sparks) and Zelda (Mary Kate Wiles) as they deal with life in their suburban town, one adventure at a time. It premiered on YouTube on Mar 16, 2012 [1].
The show used a Kickstarter campaign to raise the $12,000 needed to complete production of its first season. On November 13, 2011, they successfully funded with $12,476 from 196 backers.
In 2012, Squaresville joined the Big Frame YouTube network [2].
On February 1, 2013, Squaresville launched its second season with the episode "Back to Basics" [3].
Cast
- Zelda Waring (Mary Kate Wiles) is Esther's best friend. She is afraid that she'll never get to leave her hometown, as expressed in "Let's Hang Out in the Treehouse" [4], which is why she so frequently insists on adventuring. Despite her carefree spirit, Zelda often proves to be stubborn.
- Esther (Kylie Sparks) is Zelda's best friend. She frequently objects to Zelda's plans for adventure, as seen in "Nerds on the Run" [5], but she goes along with them anyway. In the first season finale, Esther reveals that she thinks she is gay[6].
- Percy (Austin Rogers) is friends with Esther and Zelda. He has a reputation for being a geek, and he occasionally asks Zelda and Esther for romantic advice, as seen in the episodes "Sassy Girl" and "Cougarville."
- Shelly (Tiffany Ariany) is the childhood friend of Zelda. She was stripped of her popularity at school when she peed into the shoes of queen bee Britton (Shannon Lorance) at a party, causing her to rekindle her old friendship with Zelda. She is dating Esther's brother Ozzy (Jim Mahoney), much to Esther's chagrin. She is described on the show as "the hottest of messes" [7].
- Wayne (David Ryan Speer) is Zelda's primary romantic interest. He is constantly seen getting into trouble on the show, either by sticking plastic forks in the football field, spray painting dumpsters, or starting "trash riots" with his friends. Despite his bad reputation, he seems to sincerely care for Zelda.
- Sarah Waring (Christine Weatherup) is Zelda's older sister. She works in a restaurant in her hometown and often offers Zelda words of advice.
