The sixteen clubs are divided into two groups that will play in two tournaments. The two best teams from each group will advance to the playoffs and while the next best two will play for the Troféu Washington Rodrigues. The 2012 Campeonato Estadual da Serie A de Profissionais do Rio de Janeiro was the 111th season of Rio de Janeiro's top professional football league.
Fluminense were crowned champions after winning Botafogo in the finals.[1]
Format
The sixteen clubs are divided into two groups that will play in two tournaments.
