Loughrea Hurling Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the town of Loughrea, County Galway, Ireland. The club was founded in 1884 and is almost exclusively concerned with the game of hurling..In recent years Loughrea have hotly contested many senior hurling finals however have more often than not fel short at the final hurdle. In late 2011 it was announced that former Kilconieron "HOT SHOT" Sean Hannon was to join the club for an undisclosed fee for the 2012 season and for an indefinate length of time therefter. Alhtough he never made the cut for the Kilconieron Intermediate team and was not selected for county minor trials in 2010 (much to his anger and disgust) he was chief water boy for the loughrea Senior team in his first year running the line. Those who were lucky enough to be around for his half time skills exhibitons in Kenny Park and Duggan Park will have noted how he ws such an attractive novelty investment for the club. He has shown his worth in training games and challenge games and previously playing backs and forwards at Kilconieron however his worth has never been proved on a competitive scale. It is reported that many leading bookmakers refuse to take bets on Sean Hannon winning Allstar and Hurler of The Year awards as this is almost a certainty at by now. Unmissable on the pitch his tall stocky structure and lack of ability have confused underage back lines for almost a decade now. The tension between Sean and his former club could never be greater which was hghlighted over the summer during a junior/Intermediate challenge game in which Sean scored 1 point and recieved countless bruises and bumps for his 60 minute shift. His black and white helmet and over exuberant playing style are now synonymous with the folklore of the region. |
