Boni MRT Station or called as Boni Avenue, is a station on the Manila MRT Blue Line (MRT-3). It is the eighth station for trains headed to Taft Avenue and the sixth station for trains headed to North Avenue. It has several restaurants and shops that surround the station, including a public market located across the train station.
Nearby landmarks
The station serves Mandaluyong City and the new Pioneer District. Its nearest landmarks include Forum Robinsons, Go Hotel and Robinsons Cybergate Plaza in Robinsons Cyberpark; Victor Potenciano Medical Center, GA Twin Towers and Paragon Plaza Building. It is also located near the headquarters of Globe Telecom at Pioneer Street and Rizal Technological University on Boni Street. It will soon be connected to the SM Light Residences and Pioneer Woodlands developments.
The Boni Metro Stop was named after Ovidio Boni, an American civil engineer who moved to Manila in the late 1920s, where he lived until his death in 1965. He, his wife Albina and three oldest sons, Ovid, David and Bob, were interned at Santo Tomas prison camp during the war. They subsequently returned to their home at 1739 Donada Street in Pasay City and had a fourth son, Bill.
Transportation links
Jeepneys, buses, taxis, and cycle rickshaws are available outside the station, at EDSA, Pioneer, and Pinatubo Streets. A major jeepney terminal is located in the area, at Metromart Market, and jeeps leaving from the terminal head for western Mandaluyong City, Pasig City, and City of Manila (Stop and Shop near Santa Mesa). A major cycle rickshaw terminal is also nearby, serving locally within Mandaluyong City. Its proximity to Rizal Technological University and other colleges in the area makes the station a popular stop for students.
