Pacific Sky (formerly Sky Princess) was an Australian cruise ship operated by P&O Cruises Australia since 2000. Pacific Sky completed her final cruise for P&O Cruises in May 2006. As a loved but much troubled Aussie liner, Pacific Sky spent (6) years in the P&O fleet and was sold to Spanish cruise line Pullmantur Cruises in May, 2006. She will be based in Europe and will be renamed "Sky Wonder".
In the beginning, Sitmar Cruises created "Fairsky". When Sitmar was bought by Princess Cruises in 1988, the ship was renamed "Sky Princess" and remained with Princess until 2000 when she transferred toi P&O Cruises under the name "Pacific Sky". Pacific Sky is the last major passenger ship built with steam engines. Replacing the 1957-built Fair Princess, Pacific Sky took Australian cruising to a new level, with modern facilities and an increased capacity to cater for Australian demand, taking over 275,000 Australians on more than 200 cruises. Pacific Sky pioneered round-trip cruising from Auckland, Brisbane, Melbourne and Singapore and has proved to be a popular cruse ship by both Australians and New Zealanders.
In October 2007, the US-based 70,000 tonne ship, "Regal Princess" in the Princess Cruises fleet will replace Pacific Sky, under the name of Pacific Dawn. The new ship will embark on its eight-night maiden voyage - October 26, 2007. It will be based in Sydney and offer a selection of cruises to the South Pacific, including Christmas and New Year departures, plus a Melbourne Cup cruise.
