Plot
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani brings two polar opposite characters, who at one point were from the same batch at Modern School, Naina Talwar (Deepika Padukone), a studious bespectacled young girl and Bunny (Ranbir Kapoor), a carefree young travel show host intent on breaking out of the pattern of getting an education, a career, wife, children, retirement, and eventually death. With a desire to be free and live a life of wildness, he embarks on a journey with his two best friends, Aditi (Kalki Koechlin), a tomboyish girl and Avi (Aditya Roy Kapur), a satirical joking boy. He meets Naina, fails to completely recognize her, eventually invites her to spend time with him and his friends in Kashmir and ultimately, their crazy journey with the ultimate destination, "Love". As the two mature from the age of 21 to their 30's, they recognize their priorities, realize their true desires and celebrate madness, warmth, marriage, wildness, freedom, togetherness, reunions, friendship, breakups, family, and love.
Production
Filming
Portions of the film were shot at the Hadimba Temple and Manali. In May, the cast filmed in Udaipur, where Kapoor and Padukone also shot for a romantic song.[5] The unit then had a difficult shoot at Rajasthan due to the heat.[6] After filming in Mumbai, Kapoor went alone to Paris, France to shoot a 5 minute long sequence which took 10 days.[7] The shooting took place in August 2012 in a famous street market called Rue Mouffetard.[8] Other important scenes were then shot in Filmistan, Mumbai. On January 26, the crew visited Kashmir to shoot a song sequence and a few scenes with Ranbir, Deepika and the rest of the cast. They filmed at places such as Kongdori in Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Srinagar.[9]
Casting
Ranbir Kapoor was the first to sign the film, and is working under Ayan Mukerji's direction for the second time after Wake Up Sid.[10] For his role in the film, Kapoor will be sporting pierced ears.[11]
There was a lot of speculation about the film's leading lady, with Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma being considered.[12] Padukone was eventually chosen for the role as producer Karan Johar and director Ayan Mukerji felt she was the right choice.[13] Reportedly she will portray the role of a sweet girl-next-door named Naina.[14]
Aditya Roy Kapur and Kalki Koechlin have been signed on in pivotal roles.[15] Koechlin will play Aditi who is a happy-go-lucky tomboy.[16] It was later reported that German-Indian model Evelyn Sharma was signed on for the role of Ranbir Kapoor's initial love interest in the film. Sharma has confirmed that she will play a girly, ditzy character named 'Lara', who is constantly flirting with Kapoor's character.[17]
SoundTrack
The soundtrack has been composed by Pritam and lyrics penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya. Two songs - Badtmeez Dil sung by Benny Dayal and Balam Pichkari by chorus were added in the trailer. All the songs are expected to be released sequentially in the month of April.
