Regarding AFCH v4.1.16b3

Unresolved

So, if you didn't see my comment over at WT:AFC, I wanted to tell you that I updated the beta script for you to work on. Please fork it, because I want to try and get more testers on b2 while you fix bugs. I'll also update the dev page with info on what needs to be done (look under "Under development"). Thanks, Nathan2055talk - contribs 17:51, 23 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

(ping) Marking is crashing again, and commenting appears to be not adding the extra space between the comment and the signature. Any status on when you can get started, or should I try and fix them? Thanks, Nathan2055talk - contribs 01:00, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Welsh / iw Infoboxes

Hi Mabdul. I've left a message for you on my talk page. Thanks. Llywelyn2000 (talk) 06:56, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bot request granted on the Welsh language Wiki! Diolch yn fawr! I'll also make a Bot request for cy:Defnyddiwr:BOT-Twm Crys so that I can learn at the feet of a Master. Llywelyn2000 (talk) 20:25, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have access now on en. Thanks. Llywelyn2000 (talk) 23:53, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have a CSV file with two columns: the first is the name of the article. The second column contains the second / Gaelic word for the Scottish town. I've created around 500 articles on Scottish towns and villages. Now, I need to use AWB to substitute a marker (?) which is in every article, with the new Gaelic word (the second column). Can you help me please? I need to replace the marker with the second column entry. Llywelyn2000 (talk) 00:04, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Back to Infoboxes (using "infobox UK place"). I've successfully created a module, with around 12 fields e.g. static_image, post_code... It writes the list into the Project folder on C: - but only the fields you originally typed in! i.e.

"List of places in Bedfordshire"
Apsley End~England~51.9934~-0.36804
Aspley Guise~England~52.0126~-0.6285
Barton-le-Clay~England~51.9669~-0.4241

The "Make List > Source is set at "Category". I've double checked my additional fields in Modules e.g.

String static_image_caption="~";
m = Regex.Match(ArticleText, @"static_image_caption\s*=\s*([^\r\n\|]+)");
if (m.Success) static_image_caption = m.Result("~$1");

Any pointers, please? Llywelyn2000 (talk) 10:23, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Give me around 12h, maybe 24h and I will do it or point you to the correct direction. I have already the list finished for all parameters and extracted the information. I need only a way to get the cy names automatical (alternatively this is a manual job). mabdul 13:01, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Take a look at my talk page please. I'm nearly there. Show me how and I'll do it again; do it for me and I'll never learn! Thanks. Llywelyn2000 (talk) 14:42, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mabdul, inspired by this thread on the bureaucrats' noticeboard, I noticed your recent edit to remove a mention of an old bug from the page mentioned in the heading title. Because the bug has caused bizarre oddities in contribution histories, I've undone your edit and improved the description of the bug (with an example). Hope you don't mind. I'm not hellbent on a description of that bug staying in that particular place forever and ever amen, but the bug should be documented somewhere! Graham87 16:51, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mmmh, looking back to that edit I see why I did that, but moreover I understand why you reverted that/why this is still important. Finding stuff in bugzilla is neither easy nor is it usable for most enwp editors. Such an BRD edit is totally okay! Thanks for informing. mabdul 20:24, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Festivus for the rest of us!
Frank Costanza: "Many Christmases ago, I went to buy a doll for my son. I reached for the last one they had, but so did another man. As I rained blows upon him, I realized there had to be another way."
Cosmo Kramer: "What happened to the doll?"
Frank Costanza: "It was destroyed. But out of that a new holiday was born: a Festivus for the rest of us!"
Kramer: "That must have been some kind of doll."
Frank Costanza: "She was."

VoxelBot Editing Frequency

Hello Mabdul! You commented on our BRFA recently. It is going well and we are currently in trial. User:Legoktm has expressed his opinion that an edit every five minutes is too much. I don't want to sacrifice accuracy just to decrease the speed so I was wondering if you could take a look and comment saying what you think. Vacationnine 18:23, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Deadlink for the article Princess Maria Carolina of Bourbon

Hello and hope you're having a good weekend;

I see that you've added a template for dead links on the page I created, Princess Maria Carolina of Bourbon. I'm sorry to say that I haven't the time to search for available links which display the same info, but will try to find some. Will the article be deleted because of dead links? I hope not! --PrincessAlice13 (talk) 18:47, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Two Articles of the two persons you want to delete are famous , there is no any reasons to delete , Please stop trying to delette them .178.61.35.103 (talk) 13:14, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sry for the late response:
I never wanted to delete that article. I only marked some links as dead and marked that the article includes simple "bare urls" and should be formatted properly.
Why do you thought I wanted to delete that article?
Regards, mabdul 13:48, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The IP user who told you not to delete articles wasn't me. I was only asking you if my article will be deleted as it has dead links. Maybe the other user should've created a new section for his/her query; as it doesn't really fit in this one. That's my question. And I know you weren't even intending to delete the article; you were trying to improve it! So thank you for notifying me about the dead links. I'll sort it out as soon as I have the time to :). --PrincessAlice13 (talk) 16:13, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mabdul. Sorry about that. I thought I was seeing the Arabic page itself. Putting it through Google translate showed my error :) You said you were going to PROD it -- are you planning to? --Stfg (talk) 17:39, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I will first try to find some source on google and waiting what happen to the other articles by this user... This one could at least be "notable", although I'm not really sure about that at the moment. mabdul 18:17, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. At Racha Arodaky: I didn't understand "interwikilink is already available at wikidata". Is there a new system or something? --Stfg (talk) 14:40, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Never mind, I found it. --Stfg (talk) 14:45, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. The wikidata system is very new and thus not all pages have already an "entry" at wikidata. Moreover the existing interwiki link is still (additional) working. But we shouldn't add interwiki links any more over the former text solution. It helps us "later" to reduce the maintain cost/work of keeping the links up to date. Moreover: only a few Wikipedias (I believe 4 or 5) only use the new system at the moment. mabdul 15:44, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, that's clear. --Stfg (talk) 16:46, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Cleanup

Hello, Mabdul.

You are invited to join WikiProject Cleanup, a WikiProject and resource for Wikipedia cleanup listings, information and discussion.
To join the project, just add your name to the member list. Northamerica1000(talk) 16:09, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the invitation, but I think that most of the wikiprojects are useless for building an encyclopedia. This project is mostly only interesting for the interesting statistics. ;-) mabdul 16:35, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not all of these are on Wikidata yet. Could you please add them before removing the interwiki links. —Ruud 19:03, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

AfC Helper beta

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I didn't see a better place to comment on the beta of the AfC helper script (it seems a bit esoteric for WT:AFC). There's a bug in 4.1.16b2 with marking a page as under review. It errors out at line 1016:

Error: TypeError: text is undefined
Source File: http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=User:Mabdul/afc_beta.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript
Line: 1016

Other than that, it certainly seems an improvement over the current gadget version so far. —Darkwind (talk) 19:45, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, thanks. I know, maybe I get time to resolve that in a few weeks when I'm having holidays... mabdul 16:53, 17 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thnks for Sky lantern

Thanks for moving the references out of the way in the Sky lantern article!
However, I noticed that you changed some plain <ref>...</ref> entries to the {{cite...}} template. That is not a good idea. Those templates do nothing useful; they only make the entries longer (sometimes MUCH longer) and more difficult to read or edit. They also generate cryptic codes like "23(12)120-127" (that were invented by stingy publishers to save paper) instead of the reader-friendly "volume 23, issue 12, pages 120-127".
I will not bother to undo those edits, but be advised that changing plain refs into {{cite...}} templates is just a waste of your time, or worse.
All the best, --Jorge Stolfi (talk) 04:37, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry?
Do I make now the references longer or shorter? Most references were horrible unstyled, didn't include any accessdates or date of publishing; no publisher or even no publisher.
Moreover I don't see any reference which is converter with the "cryptic" code. (And this is not cryptic, this is a well known citation style!)
Regards, mabdul 16:51, 17 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Mabdul,
Sorry if my comment sounded like a criticism. Of course I can only thank you for adding details that were missing in the refs. (If some of the refs that I added were missing the access date, that was an oversight, as I usually add it,) But I must insist that changing the format of plain refs to "cite" templates is not an improvement, on the contrary. I beg you to consider that. Af for the compact format being " well known" , that may be true among scholars, but it is certainly not among the general public that Wikipedia is supposed to serve.

RE: Article (Zardoze)

Hi Mabdul, Thank you for your suggestions with my article submission,

I have amended the language of my piece to read more factually and have resubmitted it for approval, would greatly appreciate you guidance and advice on my newest submission.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tammilin (talkcontribs) 03:32, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The section Distribution has many unreferenced claims;
why is the section Collections worth for a reader of an encyclopedia? Moreover it is completely unreferenced!
The section Background includes many designers and names - why are all these names relevant for a reader? I mean if they don't have a separate article at Wikipedia (so aren't notable) then they don't need to be mentioned mostly. Or did you miss to add any interesting for the reader?
Overall, the article has a real chance to get accepted as it seems to be notable (as indicated by the references).
Regards, mabdul 16:46, 17 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey,
Can you take a look at the talk page of Comparison of project-management software and give me any suggestions. I saw that you are an active editor on the page(replying to some questions on talkpage) so thought to take your opinion. Looking forward to your response. Thanks!!

Requesting DELETION of out-dated USER-page

Hi mabdul, I created User:Penwatchdog/Ballpoint_pen_article_re-write_prep as a prep-area for a full revision of the Ballpoint pen article. I've now already completed the revision, over a few sessions of direct-edits to the actual Ballpoint article. Now that User-page is no longer necessary. I noticed it also shows up on the internet when searching "ballpoint pen" (the actual Ballpoint article AND the User/prep article) and I'd like to delete the prep page to avert any confusion. How can I delete it myself, or what shall i do to have it deleted? (Other User pages I've created will be "moved" directly to become NEW articles, but the Ballpoint User-page was for an existing article, I realize maybe I shouldn't have created it in the first place?). Your advice or instruction is appreciated, thanks! Penwatchdog (talk) 02:43, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Actual you can't do it by your own, but you can request a deletion by placing {{db-u1}} at the top. (see Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#U1 for that case and other speedy deletion requests)
You have done everything correctly: user pages are exactly invented for preparing, creating and improving proposals, articles and other organization stuff.
Cleaning up (by deleting) old unused user pages is a good thing! mabdul 06:07, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

THANKS for taking the time for reply/advice, always very helpful. While awaiting your reply I investigated, myself, and proceeded as I thought proper. Seems as if I was successful, the page has been deleted. Another process learned! I'll be going-public with a new article in the next 24-hours, it will be Mona Lisa replicas or Mona Lisa replicas & reinterpretations (<is that too-long of a title?) which I'd also been composing on another User-page during free-time. Be sure to keep an eye out for it and send any thoughts/criticisms! Penwatchdog (talk) 02:55, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, we have very long titles at Wikipedia. There isn't any real restriction except they have to be useful! Your article title is a short title.
I mean we have silly articles like How does one patch KDE2 under FreeBSD? or Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything... mabdul 05:49, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

yeah, what was that?

how did that AfC template end up in my talk page? weird... FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 02:24, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Rather simply and a rare case: In this edit Rickylio (talk · contribs) requested a review, but the substitution of the template wasn't correctly saved in the database of Wikipedia, and thus in the next edit (by you) it was enlarged with you as submitter. A few edits later OrenBochman (talk · contribs) declined the submission [2] and the AFC Helper tool notified you (correctly). Regards, 13:53, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for the explanation! regards, FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 13:56, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've been examining this user's edits in a number of areas. It all started when I saw him accepting a large number of Doncram's articles through AfC in a manner that seemed hasty. I've only had a chance to review a few AfC articles where I've noticed that he declined two articles that were obviously Copyvios for reasons other than copyvio, but need to look at more before I bring it up on the project talk page. Is there a way to get a list of all of his AfC reviews this month? Ryan Vesey 00:03, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

[3] Does this link help? It covers some more links, and maybe some submissions at the WP: userspace, but it tracks most submissions... mabdul 11:56, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I hadn't considered that, thanks for the good idea. Ryan Vesey 23:25, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
