Composite decking is a sustainable alternative to timber, it is being used in a wide range of environments including outdoor dining, leisure areas, balconies and caravan decks, in addition to thousands of domestic and commercial decks of all shapes and sizes.[1]
What is Composite Decking?
Composite decking fibre or otherwise known as wood-plastic composites is made with recycled plastic and wood. This type of decking is becoming more and more popular as it is eco-friendly in nature and serves as the ideal alternative to wood. There are two versions, namely, solid and hollow composite decking. The solid composite decking looks more like natural wood whereas hollow composite decking looks more engineered. Composite decking is resilient to weather conditions. Firstly, it is not affected by the moisture in the environment and is resilient to insects and rots. Secondly, it doesn't swell or shrink in size like natural wood due to weather conditions. Thirdly, it cuts and can be installed easily like real wood. Fourthly, it contains slip and water resistant properties.
Composite Decking Maintenance
A big advantage of Composite decking is that it requires a low level of maintenance. These types of decking boards are typically made from a mixture of waste wood or cellulose fiber and plastic that would only require occasional cleaning compared to the maintenance required for traditional decking. Even though composite timber decking is a mixture of wood and plastic, it gives the identical appearance of a wood deck. Composite decking is easy to maintain as you only have to wash and scrub it down two or three times in year to avoid moulds or other surface problems building up. It doesn't require painting or heating as it withstands all kind of weather conditions. It is cheaper and its resilient properties make it the lowest maintenance and most popular option in modern day decking solutions.
Composite Decking Installation Process
The installation process of composite timber decking is easy and time saving. It does not require staining or painting. This is an added advantage for home owners who dislike lengthy outdoor work. Also, composite timber decking is slip resistant providing additional safety for children and elderly family members. Installing a new deck is a huge investment. However, a composite deck has low maintenance costs, is durable, and high performing. Therefore, selecting this deck is a wise investment.
