Layla Flaherty (born 1983 in Galway, Ireland) is a model and actress recognised for her role in the infamous ‘scripted-reality’ TV show Desperate Scousewives, which was broadcast on E4 in 2011.

Early life

Layla Flaherty was born in Galway in 1983. Layla moved to Liverpool from her home in Galway in 2005 after the end of a long term relationship.[1]

Career

Layla Flaherty became well known as a starring cast member in the infamous ‘scripted-reality’ E4 show, Desperate Scousewives. Layla, who played a parodied man-eater character, created a huge impact on the show and was involved in some of its most dramatic and exciting scenes. Layla left Desperate Scousewives at the end of Series 1 to pursue further career opportunities.

Layla appeared in Sky Living's Chick Fix in July 2011. Each week the series showcased four successful women with very different dilemmas who took part in the show in the hope of overcoming an issue or achieving a goal.

Since leaving Desperate Sousewives Layla has made a number of high profile media appearances. In March 2012, Layla made a heart-rending appearance on The Late Late Show,[2] during which she stunned audiences with the news story of being among the first people to get a conviction against a cyber-bully who was using Twitter to harass her with racial abuse.[3]

In June 2012, Layla signed up to participate in the 3rd series of TV3's Celebrity Salon, alongside Nikki Grahame, Philip Olivier, Glenda Gilson and other high profile celebs.[4]

Layla has a Diploma in Speech and Drama as well as an education in Mental Health Nursing. In 2012, she enrolled at the Gaiety School of Acting, Dublin. The Gaiety is a well-established, world-renowned acting school, with alumni including actor Colin Farrell and actress Olivia Wilde.
