Kelly Sutherland (born April 18, 1971, in Richmond, British Columbia) is a National Hockey League referee, who wears uniform number 11.[1] He was one of the selected referees who officiated the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals along with Bill McCreary, Dan O'Halloran and Stephen Walkom. He was selected again to officiate the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals.
Sutherland was criticized for making a, in the words of Vancouver Canucks winger Daniel Sedin, a "BS call" in overtime in Game 4 of the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs Quarterfinals between the Canucks and the San Jose Sharks, which led to the series-ending power play goal for San Jose, eliminating Vancouver. The referee next to the play did not make the call, but Sutherland, as the far official halfway across the ice, called Sedin for boarding on a shoulder-to-shoulder hit. Said Sedin's teammate Alex Burrows, "To see a call of boarding on Danny Sedin, I’ve never seen that in my eight years here. But we should have killed it. We can’t blame it on the officials."[2]
