Zoonamchunduru is a village in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is located(Under Chowdavaram County) in Guntur Rural Mandal & District and has the population of around 800 according to the Census 2011. Zoonamchunduru is situated on the national highway NH 5 connecting Guntur and Ongole and about 280 kilometres (174 mi) north west of state capital, Hyderabad. Zoonamchunduru has a rich cultural and also has a quite political history. This village has around 80acres pond which is getting water from Nagarjunasagar canal.

It is known for its well established educational institutes like RVR & JC College of Engineering and Sri Venkateswara Bala Kuteer. It is the hub for the Paddy, Chillies, and Cotton exports.[citation needed]

History

Zoonamchunduru was part of the kingdom of Kondaveeti Raja's. The name Zoonamchunduru was born from the two devotees of the village called Zoonalamma & Chandi. After the British established control over South India, Zoonamchunduru and surrounding areas were merged into the Madras Presidency. Zoonamchunduru was upgraded from a common village to municipality division and merged into Gunrur Municipal corporation in the year of 2011 that eventually made it a well-developed village. In the process some of the neighbours were merged in the village, raising the village population towards quite high.

Climate

Zoonamchunduru village falls in the hot humid region of the State and it is less than 33 miles (53 km) from Bay of Bengal. The climate of the village is very hot in the summers and it is pleasant during the winter. The hottest day falls in the month of May with shift to June during some years. The maximum temperature observed is 48 C and the minimum temperature observed is 16.9 C.

The Village is situated near Bay of Bengal. The Nagarjunasagar canal passes near by the village.

Demographics

As per provisional data of 2011 census, Zoonamchunduru agglomeration had a population of 800, out of which males were 430 and females were 370. The literacy rate was 65.98 per cent.

  • The population of the village increased from 180 in 1901 to 600 in 1991, registering a growth of 65% during the period from 1901 to 1991.
  • The literacy rate of the village has been 32% as per 1991 census.
  • The village recorded a growth rate of 16.63% during 1981–91.
  • In 2001 the population increased slightly to 700.
  • In the middle of the year 2005 the village has the population of around 50. In 2009 its about 770.
  • The population of the village has increased to 800 as per 2011 census.

Road

Zoonamchunduru is well connected to most villages and towns in Guntur district by the state road transport corporation APSRTC. The village is situated at a distance of 12 km South East of Guntur, on the National Highway 5 (which connects Chennai and Kolkatta). Numerous buses run by private bus owners like Sri Mallika Travels(SMT), Maruthi Bus, Boggu Bus, White Bus, Red Bus etc. The distance between Hyderabad and Zoonamchunduru is about 290 km, with indirect buses from Guntur & Chilakaluripet running throughout the day. The village is accessible by bus and there are frequent buses and Autos from Guntur. There are buses running every 60 mins or less and Autos for every 10 mins from Guntur Market Center which is behind Hindu College. NH 5, part of the golden quadrilateral (i.e., Kolkata to Chennai), passes near by Zoonamchunduru.

Rail

The broad gauge Guntur-Chennai section of the Howrah-Chennai main line on the east coast connecting Madras and Kolkata passes through Tenali town which is near by. There are daily express and passenger trains to Hyderabad, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore etc., throughout the day from Guntur city. The major railway stations near Zoonamchunduru are Guntur railway station, Nallapadu Station, and Tenali Station

Air

Gannavaram, Vijayawada is the nearest airport(45 km). Kingfisher, Jet Airways, Spicejet and Air India operates regular flights from Hyderabad, Bangalore, New Delhi via Hyderabad and Chennai to Gannavaram.

The main reason of this festival is, people in the villages pray god for rain before start their cultivation.
