American recording artist Beyoncé Knowles began her career in the late 1990s as the lead vocalist of one of the best-selling American girl groups of all time, Destiny's Child, who have sold around 60 million records worldwide.[1] Her discography as a solo artist began in 2003 and consists of four studio albums, two extended plays, five live albums, one remix album and thirty-six singles—including ten as a featured artist and twelve soundtrack and promotional singles. Her first three studio albums won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album,[2] whilst all four debuted at the number one spot on the United States Billboard 200 chart.[3] Knowles has attained five US Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles. She has sold 75 million records worldwide as a solo artist, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time.[4][5] In the US, Knowles has sold over 13 million albums as of October 2012, and more than 30.4 million digital singles as of January 2012.[6][7] In late 2009, Billboard listed Knowles as the most successful female artist and the top radio artist of the 2000s (decade),[8] and in February 2010, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) listed her as the top certified artist of the decade for attaining 64 certifications, including albums, digital songs, master ringtones and music videos. Knowles has also received the most ringtone certifications, with 19.[9][10]

In June 2003, during the hiatus of Destiny's Child, Knowles released her first solo album, Dangerously in Love, which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart. The album produced the singles "Crazy in Love", "Baby Boy", "Me, Myself & I" and "Naughty Girl". With "Crazy in Love" and Dangerously in Love, Knowles became the first female artist—and the fifth artist ever—to top both the singles and albums charts simultaneously in the United States and the United Kingdom.[11] In 2003, "Crazy in Love" peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for eight consecutive weeks while "Baby Boy" maintained its number one position for one additional week on the same chart.[12] Dangerously in Love remains Knowles' best-selling album to date, with sales of 4.9 million copies in the United States alone, as of October 2012,[6] and more than 11 million copies worldwide as of the beginning of 2011.[13] After the disbandment of Destiny's Child in 2005,[14] Knowles continued her solo career with the release of "Check on It" featuring Slim Thug, which was recorded for the soundtrack of The Pink Panther,[15] and the single later topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for five weeks.[16] It was later included in her second studio album, B'Day (2006). Many of the themes and musical styles of the album were inspired by Knowles' role in Dreamgirls.[17] B'Day yielded six singles, including top-ten hits "Déjà Vu", "Irreplaceable" and "Beautiful Liar". "Ring the Alarm" became Knowles' biggest debut on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, entering at number twelve in 2006.[18] "Irreplaceable" remained at the top of the same chart for ten consecutive weeks in 2006-07, becoming Knowles longest running single at the pole position of that chart.[19] As of February 2008, B'Day had sold over seven million copies worldwide,[20] and as of October 2012, it has sold over 3.3 million copies sold in the US.[6]

In September 2008, Knowles performed on the charity record, "Just Stand Up!". Her third studio effort, I Am… Sasha Fierce which is classified as a dual disc album, was released in November 2008 and debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart.[21] It included the hit singles "If I Were a Boy", "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" which topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for four weeks,[22] "Halo" and "Sweet Dreams". The debut of "Video Phone" on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, made I Am... Sasha Fierce the first album of the 21st century to have seven songs enter that chart.[23] "Single Ladies" is Knowles' best-selling single, having sold five million paid digital downloads in the US.[24] As of October 2012, million-selling singles from I Am... Sasha Fierce have sold a combined total of 13.6 million paid digital downloads in the United States,[6] and the album has sold over seven million copies worldwide as of March 2011.[25] Knowles' fourth studio album, 4, was released in June 2011 and debuted atop the US Billboard 200 chart, becoming her fourth consecutive number one album in the United States.[26] The album's first two singles, "Run the World (Girls)" and "Best Thing I Never Had", both reached the top ten in several worldwide charts, and the fourth single "Love on Top" topped the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for seven consecutive weeks.[27]
