Vision Statement
Del Mar Pines believes that "the elementary school years are the most formative of a child's life."[1] The school's founding mission is for "...each student to leave Del Mar Pines School as an independent, resourceful thinker with a lifelong love of learning."[2] The school creates a "...nurturing educational environment, a place that inspires excellence and integrity in its students resulting in talented, caring, and courageous individuals."
History
Del Mar Pines School was founded in 1978 by Judith A. Panton. Judi saw many schools where curriculums being taught rather than children being taught. She saw a need to create a school where children would really be able to just thrive, where they would be able to reach their full potential, they would be able to be in small groups so that the pacing would be just right. So she started Del Mar Pines with the support of four teachers, 43 students and their supportive parents.
The original campus was on Quarter Mile Drive around the corner for the current location of the school. The campus consisted of a typical four bedroom ranch house on one acre of land. The school was surrounded by open fields and stables, with not a home or business in sight. The school started with one lower grade and one middle grade. The facilities were primitive and in one of the rooms, when it would rain, you would have to bring all the buckets out to try and catch all the rain drops. However, Judi believed that the facility does not make a school, and it is what goes on inside that's important.
In 1990, Del Mar Pines moved to its current location.
