- January 9 - Original Three Days Grace lead singer Adam Gontier leaves the band, citing health concerns.
- January 10 - Justin Timberlake announces his return to music with a new album titled The 20/20 Experience, and a summer tour with Jay-Z.
February
- February 4 - Fall Out Boy announce their reformation with a new album, Save Rock and Roll, and a concert tour.
- February 17 - American country singer Mindy McCready commits suicide at the age of 37.
- February 27 - Stone Temple Pilots fire their lead singer, Scott Weiland.[1]

- March 4 - Blink-182's 20th Anniversary Tour finished in Claremont, Western Australia. The tour was a success with majority of their shows being sold out.
- March 22 - My Chemical Romance announce a breakup after 12 years together.[2]

- April 14 - Deftones bassist Chi Cheng passes away at age 42 after spending more than 4 years in a coma as a result of a 2008 car accident.[3]
- April 18 - Original drummer and co-founding member of Sum 41, Steve Jocz, announces his departure from the band.
- April 21 - Divinyls singer Chrissy Amphlett dies from breast cancer at the age of 53.
