Qantas Credit Union is an Australian credit union providing a variety of financial services including home loans, personal loans, car loans, credit cards (including visa platinum credit cards), savings, financial planning assistance and foreign exchange products and services to their Members. Operating 14 branches across Australia and their Members have access to over 3000 ATMs located across Australia. Qantas Credit Union is an unlisted public company, owned by its Members and their elected 11 board members. They don’t need to make huge profits to pay dividends to shareholders, their shareholders are their Members, meaning profits go back into giving them better rates, fairer fees, and a better of banking.

History

In 1959, Qantas Credit Union was formed by a group of Qantas employees who decided they could develop a better and fairer way of banking, they pooled their funds together and created Qantas Staff Credit Union.

The Board

The Board‘s primary role is to protect and enhance the long-term stability and strength of Qantas Credit Union and ensure the ongoing return of benefits to Members. To achieve this, the Board provides strategic guidance to Qantas Credit Union; monitoring and providing effective oversight of the management team and overseeing risk management systems.

The Qantas Credit Union Board has a vast range of expertise in law, business, science, accounting, treasury, economics, and finance. Directors currently hold and have previously held various senior and executive positions with blue chip companies, including Qantas Airways, as well as policy advisory and law.

Directors must satisfy the Fit and Proper rules and regulations set down by APRA and abide by our Directors and Officers Code of Conduct, which outlines their legal and ethical obligations. Qantas Credit Union Directors are also committed to ongoing training to maintain knowledge of emerging issues and to satisfy all governance requirements. Good governance, risk management and strategic guidance not only ensure our future strength and growth, but help Qantas Credit Union to weather downturns and operate profitably in the face of adverse economic conditions.

Growth of Qantas Credit Union

Their vision to be the main financial services provider for our Members sets the foundation and direction of their strategic plan. For Qantas Credit Union it means a continued focus on ensuring gaps are identified in their range of banking products and services; that they continually explore and remove impediments to switching and make it easier for Members to apply for products and services.

New Products

The launch of the new Visa Platinum Credit Card with Qantas Frequent Flyer Points was a category first for Credit Unions. As one of the leading products on the market, Members were offered 30,000 bonus Qantas Frequent Flyer points, complimentary travel insurance and the annual card fee waived for the first year. In January 2012 they launched a new DIY Super product, a high interest savings account specifically designed for Self Managed Super Funds. Providing Members with more security and guaranteed returns for their superannuation. Qantas Credit Union is set to announce in the coming months a new banking product range.

New Branch Network

  • New branch based in the southern suburbs of Sydney officially opened in November 2011.
  • New residential branch opened in Niddrie, Melbourne in late December 2012.

New Technological Advancements

Ongoing improvement of the services, security and technology Members use to bank with Qantas Credit Union. They’ve commenced a major project to overhaul their online banking capabilities in order to compete with the major banks.
