Occupation(s)Licensed Real Estate Salesperson at Keller Williams NYC; Reality television show actor

Luis D. Ortiz (born November 13, 1986 in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico[1]) is a licensed real estate salesperson working for Keller Williams NYC[2] specializing in the real estate market located in New York City.

Luis is co-stars in the Bravo television series Million Dollar Listing New York.[3] alongside former pornographic actor and businessman Fredrik Eklund and former actor and model and real estate broker Ryan Serhant.[4]

Biography

Luis is a native of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, and grew up with his mother, father, and fraternal twin brother, Daniel Mandrake aka Daniel Ortiz.

At the age of 16, Luis and his brother left their parents and moved to Florida and in 2007, Luis moved to New York to attend the New York Film Academy.

Career

Luis's first job in real estate was working for Blackstone Properties working in the rental market. Later he worked at Prodigy Network for six months where he started in the sales market. Luis moved to Synergy.[5]

He is currently a licensed real estate salesperson with Keller Williams NYC. Luis's company biography states that he has a background in film directing and in finance[6] although no reference to education or prior work experience supports a finance background.

Ortiz was hired as the third co-star of season two of the television program Million Dollar Listing New York.

Falsified listing photos; New York Department of State investigation

During the third television episode of Million Dollar Listing New York, Luis used Photoshop to add fake images of hardwood floors and new marble countertops into promotional pictures of a property listed for $7.4 million located at 27 Downing Street. Luis and his twin brother, Daniel, also a salesperson with Keller Williams, also edited an image of a new oven into photographs of an outdated kitchen and also added in a few bookshelves. He told viewers that the 27 Downing Street home’s interior was "so shabby" that he had "no choice but to get creative."

Six days after the episode first appeared on May 22, 2013, the New York State's Department of State, which regulates the real-estate industry in New York, launched an investigation into Ortiz and his business practices. Luis said he sent the fake photos in an e-mail blast to top brokers, but said that never used them on actual listings. Ortiz was working at the New York-based real-estate firm Keller Williams NYC at the time. A representative from the Department of State refused to discuss details about the investigation with the media.

During the televised episode, as reflected in the New York Post article online video, Luis claimed that he and his twin brother learned their Photoshop skills after creating false government identifications while in college.[7]

On May 22, following the airing of the episode, Luis posted a BRAVO-hosted blog entry, entitled, "Falling Short of My Beliefs; Luis explains why he tried to use the doctored photos -- and what he's learned from his mistake, writing in part, "I have to admit, this was not the best of my moments. I always try my best to stay true to who I am and to what I represent and in this instance, I fell short of my own beliefs (as we all do at times). However, I can't say that I regret my happened. By doing what I did I learned what not to do in the future and that lesson is worth having done what I did. Sometimes we're told what not do, but it is only after we go through it ourselves that we then understand why it shouldn't have been done. That's when a real lesson is learned."[8]
