Disney Infinity is an upcoming video game from Disney Interactive Studios to be released on August 18, 2013, in North America and August 20, 2013, in Europe.[3] Announced in 2010 and developed for approximately $100 million, Disney Infinity is similar to Skylanders; the game uses collectible figurines that are then synthesized within the game, allowing for characters from Disney and Pixar properties to interact and go on adventures.[4]

Gameplay

There are two main modes in this game, Play Set[5] and Toy Box.[6] Each play set is essentially a self-contained world with its own gameplay, based on a specific movie or series with recognizable characters and storylines. Characters from one world cannot enter into another world, but players can put any character together in Toy Box mode. Toy Box is a sandbox mode that players can fully customize and explore.

Toy Box Mode

Toy Box mode[7] allows players to create their own game in an open-world arena. Players can mix and match everything that is unlocked within each of the playsets including characters, weapons and gadgets. By unlocking new content in the Disney Infinity playsets, players are able to build their own worlds and essentially create their own game[7].

Play Set Mode

There are a number of play sets available which are accessed via placing the relevant play set piece onto the Inifinity Base. Each play set is specific to a Disney/Pixar theme and only characters from that theme are able to play in that playset, so Mr Incredible can not play along with Woody in the Toy Story playset.[5]

  • The Incredibles, included in Starter Pack
  • Cars[8] - additional purchase, includes Lightning McQueen and Holley Shiftwell figures
  • The Lone Ranger[8] - additional purchase, includes The Lone Ranger and Tonto figures

Infinity Base and figurines

The Starter Pack[9] edition of the game is bundled with three figurines and an Infinity Base.[3] The Infinity Base has two round spots to place figurines, and a hexagonal spot to place world discs. When the figurines are placed on the Infinity Base, the characters are imported into the game, while world discs unlock Play Sets.[6] Standard figurines will be priced at $12.99 depending on specific retailers.[10]

Power Discs

Series 1[11]

Characters can be powered up via the use of up to 4 different Power Discs at a time, including increasing your health by 20%, increasing your wealth 10% faster, receiving 10% less damage and inflicting 10% more damage.[11]

Power Discs can also change the terrain and theme of your Toy Box mode via 8 different discs from Tangled, Wreck-it-Ralph, Finding Nemo, Alice in Wonderland, The Nightmare Before Christmas, & Frankenweenie.[11]

There are 8 different vehicles that can be accessed via Power Discs from Up, Lilo & Stitch, Cinderella, Toy Story, Peter Pan, Dumbo, Mulan and Mickey Mouse.[11]

Power Discs are an add-on sold via Blind Bags. There are 2 Power Discs in each pack, which will retails for $4.99 (USA) & £3.99 (UK). As they are sold in Blind Bags, you will not know which Discs are contained in each pack.[11]

The Starter Pack includes 1 Power Disc.[11]

Overall there will be 20 power discs available from the launch of Disney Infinity in August 2013, however there are plans for 3 series of Power Discs in total.[12]
