Joel Little (born 13th February 1983) is a New Zealand musician, songwriter and producer.
Career
Little began his career as singer and guitarist of pop punk band Goodnight Nurse. The band released two studio albums, Always and Never (2006) and Keep Me On Your Side (2008) both of which peaked at number five on the New Zealand Top 40 Albums Chart. Both albums spawned a number of singles and radio hits, and the band had a Top 40 single in New Zealand every year from 2004 to 2008 [1]. The group disbanded in 2010.
Along with Goodnight Nurse guitarist Sam McCarthy, Little produced and co-wrote the majority of the debut album by McCarthy's new group, electro pop duo Kids of 88 [2]. The album, Sugarpills, was released in 2010 and debuted at number two in the New Zealand Top 40 Albums Chart [3]. It featured three hit singles, My House, Just a Little Bit and Downtown [4]. Just a Little Bit went on to win Single Of The Year at the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards in 2010. [5]
In 2011, Little set up his own production studio, Golden Age, in Morningside, Auckland, where he now does the majority of his production and writing.
In 2012, Little co-wrote and produced, recorded and mixed The Love Club EP by Lorde[6]. Initially released as a free download, the EP quickly gained popularity and was downloaded 60,000 times [7] before being made available for purchase via digital download. First single Royals debuted at number one on the New Zealand Top 40 in March 2013 and stayed in the top spot for three weeks. [8] The EP also debuted at number two on the New Zealand Top 40 Albums Chart the same week. [9] As of July 2013, the EP has achieved gold certification in New Zealand [10] and platinum certification in Australia. [11]
On June 14 2013 the second Lorde single Tennis Court, co-written and produced by Little, debuted at number one on the New Zealand Top 40. [12] Four Lorde songs appeared in the top 20 of the New Zealand Top 40 that same week. She is the first artist to achieve this feat. [12]
Little is currently working on the debut Lorde album,[7] due for worldwide release on September 30 2013.[13]
