Template:Infobox England place Hersham is a village in Surrey, England although with a population of 20,000 it is larger than most other towns in Surrey.


The Village

Hersham has a growing population.

Hersham is where town meets country, a fine local shopping centre overlooks Hersham Green, Three and a half acres of open space where regular events take place throughout the summer months. Within a few minutes walk of the built-up area of Hersham are green fields and meadows alongside the River Mole and open countryside.

House prices vary from small bedsits at £139,000 to popstar mansions at £10 million.

Many stars use the Hersham Village Golf Club where Singer Kenny Lynch is the president.

Until recently, the youths of Hersham notoriously formed the HYO, or Hersham Youth Offenders. This gang marked it's area with graffiti, and originated in Rydens School.

The punk group Sham69 has its home roots in Hersham.

Queen Victoria wrote in her diary how she saw her first steam train in Hersham when she was a young girl.

King George III visited Weylands farm in Hersham where the first Drill Plough was evented and he saw demonstration.

Hersham is frequently a location filming for film and television productions including Nighty Night, The Glass, Monty Python and Being April.

Rail

It is served by Hersham Station and Walton-on-Thames Station both on the main London Waterloo Southwest line.

Road

To the south of the village is the A3 and M25

Local Area

RHS Garden, Wisley is close by, it is one of the three most visited paid gardens in the United Kingdom alongside Kew Gardens and Alnwick Garden. It is one of four public gardens run by the Society.

Hersham is surrounded by the towns of Cobham, Esher, Weybridge and Walton-on-Thames.

The local newspaper is the Hersham News & Mail.
