Bangerz (stylized as BANGERZ.[1]) is the upcoming fourth studio album by American recording artist Miley Cyrus. The album is her first to be released through RCA Records.[2] Bangerz further began to portray Cyrus in a more sexual image, much like her previous release.[3][4][5] Musically, the album was a departure from Cyrus' past releases, and was noted as featuring a "dirty south" musical style.[6] Cyrus collaborated with numerous rap and hip-hop artists to further achieve this sound,[7] and has also stated the album will feature various country aspects as well.[8] Bangerz is set for release on October 8, 2013.[9][10]
The album was preceded by the release of the lead single "We Can't Stop" in June.[11] The single proved to be an immediate success, reaching number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.[12] It was also successful in numerous other countries, most notably peaking at number 1 in both New Zealand and the UK.[13] The music video for the single broke numerous VEVO records, and helped the single achieve further success.[14][15][16][17] "Wrecking Ball" has been announced as the album's second single, and is slated for release in 2013.[18] The album was promoted through various live performances, including a performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.[19]The album will feature 13 songs.
Background
In 2012, Cyrus announced that she had begun work on her fourth studio album. In 2013, she ended her contract with her prior record label, Hollywood Records under which she released her last three albums: Meet Miley Cyrus in 2007, Breakout in 2008, and Can't Be Tamed in 2010 as well as an EP, The Time of Our Lives in 2009. Cyrus then went on to signed a recording contract with RCA . Cyrus speculated multiples times during the recording process about when she will be releasing the fourth album, she then went to say that the album would be dropping in 2013. She released the song, We Can't Stop as the lead single from the record. Prior to the August 8, 2013 the title of the album was unknown. When Cyrus reached 13 million followers on Twitter as a present to her fans, she announced the name of the new project. The tweet followed on as, 13 million #BANGERZ. and later backed the tweet up with another, If you don't know why my record is called #BANGERZ you'll know as soon as you hear it. Nothin but #BANGERZ.[20]
