Lynn Archibald (September 27, 1944 – May 28, 1997) was the former men's basketball coach of the University of Utah from1983-1989. Archibald led the Utes to three postseason appearances in a row from1986 to '88. In 1986 he led the Utes to the WAC Championship and a birth in the NCAA tournament before losing to Dean Smith & the North Carolina Tar Heels in the first round.  Archibald was fired after the 1989 season when the Utes underachieved partly due to injuries. The Utes were pre-season top 20 and finished 9th the the WAC. Prior to Utah, Archibald was the head coach at Idaho State University. After his career with Utah, Archibald became anassistant at Arizona State University under Bill Frieder (from 1989-1994), He left the program to be an assistant coach, and later, the director of basketball operations for Brigham Young University. Archibald died on May 28,[1] 1997 after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was 52. He is Survive by his Wife Anne, Son’s Beau and Damon, daughter LeeAnne.
