Fabrizio Boccardi is an Italian entrepreneur, investor, producer, and CEO & Chairman of the Board of Directors of King Midas World Entertainment Inc. Boccardi is the owner of the multimedia brand the Tyrant[1]. In addition, he controls several investments in the United States and abroad[2]. He resides in Las Vegas.

Early life[3]

Boccardi was born in Milan, Italy in 1967. His father was the founder of the Istituto Finanziario Ambrosiano, at one time a leading financial lending institution in Italy, with interests in construction, real estate, and insurance." Boccardi attended the prominent Leone XIII school in Milan, and then the Ophenaimer. He continued his studies in the United States, attending Villanova Preparatory School, in Ojai, California, but was unable to finish his junior year when his family’s holding company's collapsed.

At age 19 Boccardi established himself as a commodities trader in Monte Carlo, buying and selling coffee, cocoa, and cane sugar with countries like Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Zaire, Mexico, Brazil, and Honduras. In his early twenties he began to invest in condominium development in Italy and in the South of France.

Las Vegas Casinos

Boccardi has been trying to join the elite circle of casino senior executives in Las Vegas since 1998[4][5]. At that time, he signed a binding letter of intent to acquire for $275 million and put in escrow the New Frontier Hotel & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip owned at the time by Phil Ruffin. But the deal fell apart after disputes on the available acreage of the property, which was subject for a small part to certain restrictions by the city. In 2006 Phil Ruffin sold The New Frontier as announced, for $1.2 billion to an Israeli group.

In 2000 Mr. Boccardi offered $200 million for the Desert Inn Hotel & Casino, but his offer was considered too low by owners Starwood Hotel & Resorts and was then sold to Las Vegas casino titan Steve Wynn for $275 million. [6] [7][8]

In a public relations effort, Mr. Boccardi invited Prince Albert of Monaco to press his bid for the Desert Inn and the two were spotted in Las Vegas having dinner.[9]. Wynn Resorts subsequently used the Desert Inn site to develop Wynn Las Vegas that opened in 2005 on the Las Vegas’ Strip.

In 2003 Mr. Boccardi bid $8.50 per share for control of Riviera Holdings, owners of the Riviera Hotel & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip and a casino in Black Hawk, Colorado.[10][11]

The offer was subject to a change of ‘control put’ and bondholders’ approval, at that time required of a public company trading on the American Stock Exchange. Management rejected the offer, causing some shareholders to file suit against Riviera’s management for not properly considering the bona fide offer.[12][13][14][15][16]

Litigation

In April 2004, DE Shaw Laminar Portfolios announced in its filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) pending strategic discussions with Fabrizio Boccardi of Las Vegas regarding the Riviera Casino, and bought 10% in Riviera Holdings from Donald Trump.[17][18]

In May 2004, in subsequent filings with the SEC, DE Shaw Laminar Portfolios announced the termination of its discussions with Mr. Boccardi regarding Riviera Holdings. Stock of Riviera Holdings trading on the American Stock Exchange subsequently split 3 for 1 and was trading at a substantial premium[19].

In 2005 Boccardi Capital Systems filed suit in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York in Manhattan, against DE Shaw Laminar Portfolios for breach of contract and other allegations in connection with Riviera Holdings, asking for compensation of approximately $140 million. The suit was finally dismissed in February 2009, and despite an appeal that Boccardi Capital filed immediately thereafter, the judgment was reaffirmed in December 2009 by the United States Court of Appeals, Second Circuit[20].

The Tyrant

The Tyrant is Boccardi's franchise and multimedia brand, created in 2008 with the debut of "The Tyrant," a fictional character in the national bestseller “The Seven Sins: The Tyrant Ascending” written by bestselling author Jon Land[21] and published by Macmillan[22]. http://www.lasvegasweekly.com/news/2008/aug/28/man-who-would-be-king/</ref>

Boccardi worked with Land to create the story, which was published in 2008. The tale is a blurry mix of Boccardi's own life and that of the title antihero, The Tyrant (a.k.a. Michael Tiranno).

In 2011, DC Entertainment announced that a comic book would be developed based on the novel[23][24].

Books

In 2008, The Seven Sins: The Tyrant Ascending was published by Forge Books/Saint Martin's Press.[25] Written by Jon Land, the thriller featured a lead character loosely inspired by Boccardi. The Library Journal selected The Seven Sins: The Tyrant Ascending as a "Best Thriller of 2008."[26]

A second book in The Tyrant series has been announced to be called “Fabrizio Boccardi’s The Tyrant”. The sequel is to be written by Jon Land and published by Macmillan.[27][28] [29][30].

A new book series has been announced that will be called “Fabrizio Boccardi’s Maximillian” to be written by New York Times best selling author Susan Sizemore and published by Macmillan Publishing Group. Boccardi announced having plans for Maximillian, including a film, and or TV series[31].

Movie

Boccardi will be producing[32] the movie adaptation of “The Seven Sins: The Tyrant Ascending” with Moritz Borman and Christopher Kyle[33][34][35][36].

Gaming/Casinos

Seven Sins Casino & Resort is a hypothetical megaresort & casino built and owned by The Tyrant on the Las Vegas Strip, depicted in the literary, film, and comic franchise currently in development. Boccardi expects to license, build, and/or operate the property as a real casino sometime in the future, in Las Vegas or elsewhere[37][38]

Personal life

Boccardi married his first wife, a Danish citizen, when he was 18. They later divorced.

In Monte Carlo, Boccardi met and married in 1995 his second wife. They ultimately separated and subsequently divorced in 2006.

He has lived in the United States since 1998 and in Las Vegas since the year 2000.
