McCarthy's first solo album was originally titled "[[Life Is Sucking The Life Out Of Me]]". The album was written, recorded, and mixed at [[Easier (recording studio)|Easier]] with songwriter/musician/producer [[Stephen Papke]] and British House DJ/producer Mark "Blakkat" Bell. All songs were co-written by Douglas McCarthy, Stephen Papke, and Mark Bell. This album is yet to be released in its entirety as it is pending a legal copyright dispute. The album includes the tracks: "Demon Prophet", "Fall", "Someone Like Me", "Finding Clues", "Hey", "What My Gonna Do", "Find You", and "Death Is King". Four of the tracks have been published by Pylon Records and digitally by Shaboom Records, under the album title "Kill Your Friends", without permission and proper credit to the songwriters. These tracks include "Hey", "Death Is King", "Demon Prophet", and "Find You". Cyrus Rex and Jeff Smith use [[Easier (recording studio)|Easier]] original studio performances/master recordings as backing tracks at live shows, via laptop computers.

Douglas John McCarthy (born 1 September 1966) is the vocalist of the Chelmsford, Essex-based EBM band Nitzer Ebb.

Apart from writing and performing with Nitzer Ebb, McCarthy has also appeared on recordings by Recoil and has released material in collaboration with DJ Terence Fixmer as Fixmer/McCarthy. He has also contributed vocals to tracks by Die Krupps, Motor, Kloq and Client.

After Nitzer Ebb originally split, McCarthy left the music business — save for the Recoil tracks to which he contributed — and focused on film studies and design in Cambridge, England, UK. He moved to London in 2000 to work in the advertising field.[1]

Currently performing as Douglas J. McCarthy along with Cyrus Rex; his first solo album, Kill Your Friends, was released in November 2012 on Los Angeles-based label Pylon Records.
