The United States is home to the largest passenger vehicle market of any country in the world. Which should come as no suprise considering that it is by far the largest industrialized country on the planet. Most vehicles in the US are still manufactured by American autmobile manufacturers, though imports from mainly Japan and Germany constiture a great portion of vehicles sold in the US. There are currently two large car manufacturers based in the US, the General Motor corperation and the Ford Motor Company. Age of vehicles in operation

In the year 2001 National Automobile Dealers Association conducted a study reveiling the average age of vehicles in operation in the US. The study found that of vehicles in operation in the US 38.3% were older than ten years, 22.3% were between seven and ten years old, 25.8% were between three and six years old and 13.5% were less than two years old. According to this study the majority of vehicles, 60.6% of vehicles were older than seven years in 2001.[2]
