Austin Harris[3] Mahone (born April 4, 1996) is an American pop singer who became popular in 2011 due to YouTubeHis Girlfriend name is Gloria, and he loves her with everything in him, he would take a bullet for her if he has to. They been going out for about 6 months now "Best 6 months of my life" Austin says himself. He doesn't talk about her much because he says she doesn't like to be in the stop light. They text 24/7 and skype and call one another as often as possible. They met at one of Austins concerts. Yes, Gloria is a Mahomie. Austins says without her i would die, she is and will always be my heartbeat.. Mahone was chosen as one of the opening acts of Taylor Swift's Red Tour[4] and Bridgit Mendler's Summer Tour with selected dates. He is currently signed to Young Money Entertainment, Cash Money Records and Republic Records preping his debut album Junior Year.[5]

Background

Mahone was born in San Antonio, Texas. He first started posting videos on YouTube with his friend Alex Constancio in June 2010.[6] Music videos followed by January 2011, and he began to build an online following. He has been called the "second coming of Justin Bieber".[7] when in October 2011, Mahone posted a video covering Justin Bieber's song "Mistletoe".[7][8] On August 28, 2012 Mahone announced that he had been officially signed to Chase/Universal Republic Records.[9] Mahone's first single "11:11" charted at #19 on the Billboard Heatseekers Songs chart. On June 5, 2012 Austin Mahone released a second single called "Say Somethin". The single did better than his first, charting at #34 on the Billboard Pop Songs chart.[10] On May 22, 2012 Mahone played at the first Q102 Springle Ball music concert. Soon after, he sang at the B96 SummerBash in Chicago[11] and on June 22, 2012, in New York City.

Image and artistry

Mahone has a strong social media presence. He sells Skype sessions with his fans at $50 for a 10-minute call.[12] His mother explained that “we’ve changed the prices so many times because we wanted to be fair, we don’t want to gouge people, but the demand was so high.” Mahone's fan base is dominated by teenage females, called "mahomies".[6][7] Kara DioGuardi, who is involved in his career, said of his online popularity: "He knows how to connect. I think people feel attached to him because he’s so genuine. He lets them into his bedroom and talks to them in his videos. When you see him perform, it’s like he’s singing to you."[13] In September 2011, he debuted at #38 on the Billboard Social 50 chart, the youngest to appear on the list.[7] He rose to #28 on the list on December 2.[14] In 2012, The Wall Street Journal named Mahone as a "leading contender to be the next Bieber."[15] He responded to the comparisons saying, "It’s cool you know, he’s very successful, it’s very flattering. But you know I want people to give me a chance as my own artist you know to see me as me."[16] In 2013, he was named one of MTV's "Artists To Watch"[17]

Growing up, Mahone was influenced by artists across multiple genres of music, including country singer George Strait. He is also a fan of Taylor Swift, Flo Rida and Mariah Carey. Mahone taught himself drums, took guitar lessons for a year and a half and “sang in the shower … until last year when this girl on YouTube helped me with my breath control and taught me different warmups."[13] Mahone's fanbase have called themselves "Mahomies".
