Megan Lynne Young [2] (born February 27, 1990[3] ) is a Filipino American actress and model. She won the title Miss World Philippines on 2013[4] and was later crowned as Miss World 2013 held in Indonesia.[5][6][7][8] She is the first Filipina to ever win the prestigious Miss World, which is one of the most famous international beauty contests held. [9] Megan is currently a member of ABS-CBN's Star Magic.[10] She is the older sister of actress Lauren Young.
Biography
Young was born in the United States and moved to the Philippines at age ten. She attended thidrum high school in Trinity University of Asia in Quezon City. She is currently majoring in Digital Film Making at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.[11]
In September 14, 2012, Young was named as one of the National Peace Ambassadors alongside other local personalities like Anne Curtis, Gerald Anderson, Mikael Daez, and apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas for the "I Am For Peace" campaign held in Malacañan Palace.[12]
Young was crowned Miss World Philippines 2013. Megan Young is representing her country at Miss World 2013 in Indonesia where she subsequently won the Miss World 2013 title. On which, the Miss World is the oldest surviving major international beauty pageant and one of the big four International Pageants[5]
Career
Young's first showbiz break was with the talent reality search StarStruck wherein she placed in the top three together with LJ Reyes and Ryza Cenon. She is a product of GMA. After two years with GMA Artist Center, she soon moved to ABS-CBN following her sister, Lauren Young. She is the first StarStruck alumna to transfer to GMA's rival station, ABS-CBN.
Young first appeared in ABS-CBN in the youth oriented show "Star Magic Presents" Astigs and Abt Ur Luv. She also played the role of Shane in Kokey, opposite Zanjoe Marudo. She became well known when she appeared as one of the celebrity housemates in Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Edition 2, dubbed as "The Princess of Charm".[13] After PBB, she portrayed the villain Marcela in ABS-CBN's remake of I Love Betty La Fea opposite John Lloyd Cruz. In 2009, she was one of four personalities introduced as video jockeys for the relaunching of Channel [V] Philippines. Young also became an occasional host in several shows in Studio 23. In 2012, Young had her big break as a lead actress in Hiyas, reuniting with Zanjoe Marudo as her love interest. In 2013, she appeared in TV5's dramas Never Say Goodbye and Misibis Bay.
Aside from television, Young has also starred in a few films, one of which was The Reunion, where she played Toyang, opposite Xian Lim.
On August 18, 2013, Young was crowned Miss World Philippines 2013. Her win qualified her to the Miss World 2013 pageant on Indonesia.[14] On September 28, 2013, she bested 126 candidates from all over world to win the crown.[15]
