Article titles

Re: merging John Davidson (popular singer) and John Davidson (game show host);

I don't really like either of the titles. He has hosted variety programs in addition to game shows, and has also been an actor. Suggestions? Fan-1967 16:50, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good point, and I thought about that too. John Davidson (entertainer) maybe? He's just done so many different things it's hard to pinpoint something. Kirjtc2 19:02, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't think of that one, but I think it's a good choice. I just checked the DAB page and the others are a poet, a hockey player and a (redlinked) botanist. Entertainer should make it pretty clear who we're talking about. Fan-1967 20:24, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

Everyone who worked on this should be thanked for removing needless duplication. Bona Fides 13:34, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Faked His Death

Infamous for faking His death in the eighties or nineties. Disappeared for a time. Sorry no citation but it was a big deal in the news76.246.235.134 (talk) 23:13, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I never heard that, and I can't find any reference to that anywhere.—Chowbok 23:40, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am certain it happened. If I can find a reliable source I will let you know. Thanks Chowbok (still looking)76.246.235.134 (talk) 16:26, 18 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think he was supposed to have died of AIDS or drug addiction — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.184.250.4 (talk) 02:09, 28 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 1b

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was no consensus. --BDD (talk) 23:11, 25 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

John Davidson (entertainer)John Davidson (game show host) –(unbundled as requested) On the borderline where you'd expect (entertainer) to be a possible for article title WP:CRITERIA, but no, in WP:RS still overwhelmingly known as "host John Davidson" = 1,110 GBooks vs only "entertainer John Davidson" = 77 GBooks; perhaps because his sideline career was as dinner singer of lounge music standards, rather than a TV singer? But anyway, follow the sources. Relisted. BDD (talk) 16:10, 18 September 2013 (UTC) In ictu oculi (talk) 03:21, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't look to perfect when 1,100 vs 77 are for TV "host". The relevant policy is WP:AT, particularly 2. Naturalness ... Such titles usually convey what the subject is actually called in English. What evidence is there that the subject is actually called "entertainer" in English? In ictu oculi (talk) 05:06, 7 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
