Mangavilai "மங்காவிளை" is a village in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, India. Mangavilai comes under the Dharmapuram Panchayat, and is 9 km from Nagercoil, the district headquarters of Kanyakumari. The name Mangavilai means undestroyable fame.[citation needed]
History
Mangavilai is one of the small villages in the Kanyakumari district. There is generally only one relationship in the village i.e. brother and sister's relationship. This is the main feature of the village. It has the population of around 850 peoples. The village has a name board in the entrance written in three languages (Hindi, Tamil and English). In Kanyakumari district, there are few villages having name boards with three or more languages and the same name board was established on 24.09.1985. It is a peculiar display.
Basically the peoples are hard workers. They went up to Member of Parliament level. One of the village man contested in a Parliament election against the greatest leader Shri K. Kamaraj (Ex-Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu) in 1972, but he failed and became a Rajyasabha Member. His name is Shri M C Balan, Ex-MP.
Village and surroundings
Mangavilai comes under Dharmapuram Panchayat. It is situated 1 km North of the Arabian Sea and 9 km distance from Nagercoil, which is the district Headquarters and 20 km distance from Kanyakumari, which is the southern most tip of the land. It is surrounded by some other small villages namely Pilavilai in the north, Neduvilai in the east, Kaliyayanvilai in the south and Puthoor and Panavilai in the west.

Siva Sudalai Maadan Kovil
Sudalai Maadan Temple is belonging to the whole village. It is situated in the centre of the village.
Arunachaleswar Temple
It is a family temple, that is present in the north side of our siva sudalai maadan temple
Isakki Amman Temple
It is a family temple, that is present in the west side of our siva sudalai maadan temple.
Vinayagar Temple
This is a famous temple which is present inside our siva sudalai saamy temple..
Ayya Vaikundar Temple
This is a family temple, that present in the west of Isakki Amman temple.
Culture and religion
All the residents of Mangavilai follow Hinduism and belong to the Nadar caste.
Education
In Mangavilai, People are mostly educated. The literacy rate is 100%. Here the people are regularly reading newspapers. The village has a big library with a reading room with more than 15 weekly and monthly magazines and a sports complex to develop the physical fitness of the youth. The library provides educational and employment services through various consultants and documents. There is an annual meeting of employed people for some interaction. This provides the village with heads to develop the education. This meeting advices the village people to attain development in various fields.
The village produces many Doctor, Engineers, lawyers, college professors, and government employees, including military and paramilitary service and State Administrative Service personnel. At present the village has one Govt. employee in each household. The graduates are multiplied every year. For example Doctorate (both Arts and Science) candidates are approximately 300 in the village.
Climate
The maximum temperature during summer hovers around 86°F or 30°C. Mangavilai receives both the North-East and South-West monsoons.
