Clow Reed is a fictional character in CLAMP's anime and manga series Cardcaptor Sakura. He is also known as Clow Reed in the English adaptation Cardcaptors. Voiced by Dale Wilson. |

Andre Reed (born January 29, 1964 in Allentown, Pennsylvania) is a former professional American football player who played wide receiver in the NFL for 16 seasons, 15 with the Buffalo Bills (1985-1999) and one with the Washington Redskins (2000). He is widely considered one of the best wide receivers to ever play the game. |
|||
He also exists in the storyline of another CLAMP series, ×××HOLiC. |

Clow is also a fictional character in CLAMP's Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE with a separate characterization. |

Reed began his football career at Allentown's Dieruff High School, where he played quarterback. He then attended college at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, where he was a standout wide receiver who quickly drew the attention of the NFL. Reed was drafted by the Bills in the 1985 NFL Draft. |

Clow Reed is the creator of the Clow Cards (also referred to as "The Clow"), a series of cards resembling tarot cards with various magical powers within them. Additionally, he is the creator of Yue and Cerberus, assigned to protect The Clow and ensure that it gets passed on properly to new masters. |
|||
When Clow was nearing death, he chose Sakura Kinomoto (Sakura Avalon in Cardcaptors) to be the new mistress of The Clow. Sakura was not yet born at the time, but Clow's magical ability allowed him to foresee most of the future and plan many of the situations that would enable Sakura to succeed in taking full possession of the Clow Cards. This is the reason why Sakura's sealing wand is pink and cute. |
|||
Reed ranks highly in many NFL career statistical receiving categories. He is fourth in total career receptions with 951 (behind only Jerry Rice, Cris Carter and Tim Brown), sixth in total career receiving yards with 13,198, and tenth in total career touchdowns receptions with 87. With the Bills, Reed played in four consecutive Super Bowls (1991-1994) and was selected to the Pro Bowl seven times in a row (1988-1994). Reed set career highs with 90 receptions in 1994, 10 touchdowns in 1991, and 1,312 receiving yards in 1989. |
|||
Clow makes an appearance in episode 46 just after Sakura has completed the Final Judgment, thus becoming the new mistress of The Clow. Here Clow explains the coincidences he had planned for Sakura--situations that would allow her to recapture all the Cards. He also advises Sakura to take care of her new power, the power that changed the original sealing wand into one that is completely Sakura's. |
|||
During his NFL career, Reed was known as a highly durabile and tough receiver. He was a fearless over-the-middle receiver, never afraid to take punishing blows in exchange for receptions and often shaking off tackles for significant after-catch running yards. |
|||
In episode 68, Sakura uses The Return to visit Clow prior to his death. Clow recognizes Sakura but does not concisely answer all of her questions. Sakura is mainly concerned that she would never be as great or as powerful as Clow, but Clow reminds her that she cannot keep comparing herself to him. Sakura is her own self, and she has already been fulfilling Clow's final wish, which is to allow his creations (the Cards, Cerberus, and Yue) to live in happiness under a new master. During this visit, Clow gives little to no insight about the recent mysterious happenings, though Sakura finds that out from Eriol when she returns to the present. |

Syaoran Li (Li Showron) is one of Clow's direct descendants. |
|||
In addition to the important role he played in taking the Bills to four Super Bowls, Reed is remembered particularly for his contributions to the Bills' January 3, 1993 playoff victory over the Houston Oilers, a game that has come to be known simply as "The Comeback". In the game, which Houston led decisively 35-3 at half time, Reed caught three touchdowns in the second half to lead the Bills to the largest comeback in NFL history. Contributing substantially to "The Comeback," Reed finished the game with 8 receptions for 136 yards and 3 touchdowns. The game is considered one of the most extraordinary comebacks in all of American sports. |
|||
Clow Reed's name resembles that of Thoth Tarot creator Aleister Crowley (クロウリー Kurourī in Japanese). |
|||
Reed went on to catch 8 passes for 152 yards in the Bills 55-17 Super Bowl XXVII loss to the Dallas Cowboys a few weeks later. |
|||
In Cardcaptors, Clow is also a local figure, with the town of Reedington being named after him. |
|||
==Likely Hall of Fame induction== |
|||
==Reincarnation== |
|||
Reed became eligible for induction into the NFL's Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006, but was not one of the finalists announced during January of that year due largely to the logjam of accomplished wide receiver candidates that year. He played most of his career with former Bills quarterback Jim Kelly, who was inducted into the Hall in 2002. Still, most analysts believe Reed's extraordinary receiving statistics, along with the role he played in taking the Bills to four Super Bowls, almost surely will ultimately guarantee him Hall of Fame selection. |

|
|||
Clow Reed's present-day reincarnation is Eriol Hiiragizawa (Eli Moon), appearing in season three of the anime. In the manga, Sakura's father, Fujitaka Kinomoto (Aiden Avalon) is also a reincarnation (but just one-half, while Eriol is the other). Eriol retains all of Clow's past memories and most, if not all, of his magic. Eriol's purpose is to create situations, much like Clow did in season one, that would allow Sakura to convert the Clow Cards into Sakura Cards, putting them wholly under her magical influence and completely finishing the transition of The Clow from Clow Reed to Sakura. |
|||
==Television career== |
|||
Reed provides regular football commentary on the ESPN2 show, Cold Pizza, and appears periodically as a football analyst on The NFL on FOX. |
|||
Because Eriol is Clow's reincarnation, Sakura and company continuously detect Clow's presence during Eriol's trials. This leads to suspicion in Sakura when she visits Eriol's manor in episode 65 and feels Clow's presence all over, especially in Eriol's armchair. The manor was indeed inhabited by Clow when he was alive, but Sakura does not fully realize this until the end of the series. |

Clow Reed (クロウ・リード, Kurou Rīdo) is a fictional character in CLAMP's anime and manga series Cardcaptor Sakura. He is also known as Clow Reed in the English adaptation Cardcaptors. Voiced by Dale Wilson.
He also exists in the storyline of another CLAMP series, ×××HOLiC.
Clow is also a fictional character in CLAMP's Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE with a separate characterization.
Character and Role
Template:Spoiler Clow Reed is the creator of the Clow Cards (also referred to as "The Clow"), a series of cards resembling tarot cards with various magical powers within them. Additionally, he is the creator of Yue and Cerberus, assigned to protect The Clow and ensure that it gets passed on properly to new masters.
Clow Reed's name resembles that of Thoth Tarot creator Aleister Crowley (クロウリー Kurourī in Japanese).
In Cardcaptors, Clow is also a local figure, with the town of Reedington being named after him.
Reincarnation
After learning that Clow was reincarnated, Yue protests the entire situation involving Sakura having to become the new master of The Clow. Eriol, holding Clow's memories, explains that he is not the actual Clow Reed, who would never return to this world. This is why Clow entrusted everything to Sakura. However Eriol offers to talk about his memories whenever Yue wishes.
Clow in ×××HOLiC
Yuuko Ichihara, a main character in ×××HOLIC, repeatedly talks about Clow. While the exact nature of their relationship is uncertain, they are known to have worked together to create the two Mokonas who appear in ×××HOLiC and Tsubasa. Yuuko tends to refer to Clow as "that creep with glasses".
Clow in Tsubasa
Another incarnation of Clow Reed appears in Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE. He is not the same person as the Clow Reed of Cardcaptor Sakura and referred to in ×××HOLIC. Clow, instead, is the father of Sakura and Touya, and the former king of the Kingdom of Clow.
Little is known about Clow himself as he has passed away before the story begins. He is known to have allowed the excavation of the ruins in the country under the direction of the archaeologist, Fujitaka, and also allowed Fujitaka's adopted son, Syaoran, to become a close friend of his daughter Sakura. It it implied that he had powerful magic of his own and was able to discern the fates of Sakura and Syaoran before his death; he would later teach Yukito, the current High Priest of Clow, his knowledge of magic.
Fei Wong Reed, the mastermind who initially guides the journey of Sakura and Syaoran across the dimensions, is somehow related to Clow Reed; either Fei Wong is a descendant of Clow or vice versa . Because ×××HOLIC crosses over with Tsubasa, the Clow Reed whom Fei Wong Reed is referring to is most likely the same Clow who Yūko Ichihara was personally acquainted with rather than the former King of Clow since Fei Wong will often refer to Clow in conjunction with Yūko.
