Totò e Peppino divisi a Berlino (internationally released as Toto and Peppino Divided in Berlin) is a 1962 Italian comedy film directed by Giorgio Bianchi.[1][2]

Plot

In 1961, Antonio La Puzza emigrated from Acerra for lack of money in Berlin then divided between Western and Soviet searching for Giuseppe "Peppino" Pagliuca (a Neapolitan "magliaro" who emigrated to Germany years earlier). There he meets two guys, including the daughter of Admiral Attila Canarinis (former Nazi military very much like La Puzza) that, instead of helping the recruit to the tune of 20 million lire: the poor accept Antonio La Puzza and pretends the Admiral, and in the court of the U.S. base to be found innocent, even if not immediately believed, so the Americans release spiandolo in his every move. Then he meets a group of Italian immigrants including Pagliuca but the Soviets, the Americans believe that Canarinis fled from the U.S. prison, they go in search of the fugitives. The Soviets find and recruit the two that occur in East Berlin as Admiral Canarinis and his assistant, but they exchange the book of Grimace for a secret code and force them to use it to shoot down a U.S. spy plane, but mistakenly hit their aircraft and they will ship directly to West Berlin (American side). The Americans, in turn, realizing that it was not Canarinis Admiral and his collaborator, release them. The Chinese also believe, however, that the two are Canarinis the admiral and his assistant, so they end up being conducted in China.
