Charlie Horse are a band based in Sydney, Australia. The group formed in 2010 and as of 2013 have released 2 albums, 'I Hope I'm Not A Monster' in 2012 on Laughing Outlaw Records[1]and 'Strange Passengers' on Plus One Records[2] in 2013. They have released an EP in 2011, I Killed My Mind and 3 singles with accompanying film clips, I Killed My Mind, Dead Roses and Deep Water.
Biography
The band formed after McDonald and Rose met in a Balmain pub, the London Hotel on New Years Day 2010. After discussing music and a shared love of old Springsteen and Ryan Adams, the duo agreed to write together to see what would eventuate. Having written the bones of their first EP, the duo relocated briefly to Edinburgh for inspiration then settled on the Blue Mountains upon their return to Australia where they built a studio on the top floor of a log cabin in a remote valley. It was here that their debut album and follow up album were completed and recorded.[3]
Music
The band were often labelled alt country which is possibly appropriate for their first album I Hope I'm Not A Monster, but their second album Strange Passengers saw them develop their sound into a much darker lyrical territory with sonic textures that drew comparisons to PJ Harvey, the Drones, Patti Smith and Crazy Horse. Both albums have received incredibly positive reviews in publications such as Rolling Stone Magazine, the Sydney Morning Herald, Rhythms Magazine and other notable web blogs and street press such as Doubtful Sounds and the Music.[4][5][6]
Recent Activity
Having spent the majority of 2013 touring their album Strange Passengers through Australia and New Zealand with artists such as Swervedriver, Stan Ridgway, Ash and Peter Murphy of Bauhaus fame, the band are looking towards touring internationally in 2014.
