City Council

Question: It states that the first African American was elected into the council in 2004. However, I live in Fontana and I believe Aquanetta Warden was on the city council prior to that date. Because in 2003 of my AP Gov't class, she came into my class and made a presentation. She even handed out her Business card which identified her as a member of the city council.

Answer: According to the city's official site, Ms. Warren was originally appointed to the city council in 2002, and then in the 2004 elections, she was elected for the first time. Information comes from [1] JWut89LA 16:30, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Seal fontana.png

Image:Seal fontana.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:26, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Fontucket"???

Regarding this place's alternate appellations, "Fontucky" I can see (Fontana + Kentucky), but "Fontucket"? Assuming this derives from Fontana + Nantucket, how would this be considered derisive? Is this nickname real or did someone make this up? +ILike2BeAnonymous 17:49, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I live nearby and have never heard Fontana referred to as "Fontucket." That doesn't even make sense. It is often referred to as "Fontucky." The "Fontucket" nonsense should be removed from the article. --71.104.15.93 07:50, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rev. Al Fontucky moved to the Fontana metro area in early 1952 where he proceeded to build the nations first mega church - over 30,000 parishioners, most of them were descendants of revolutionary war deserters.173.58.47.102 (talk)

Population

The article lists the city's current population as being 158,235 persons, according to U.S. Census bureau estimates for 2005. However, in 2006, the city completed a major sphere-of-influence island annexation campaign, which raised the official population significantly. According to estimates from the State of California Department of Finance, the city's population is now (as of 1 January, 2007) 181,640 persons. [2] (line 428) My question is whether or not this information is admissible. Should the city population in the article be updated to reflect the State's estimate, or should we stick with census bureau data? JWut89LA 16:45, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nobody responded to my query for several months, so I went with the California DoF data, which, In my opinion, looked more reputable and official than the previous source. The page has been updated.JWut89LA (talk) 03:58, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hells Angels references should be in the trivia section.

Why are the references to the Hells Angels motorcycle gang so prominently mentioned? I think this info, while interesting, is certainly not cogent to the current description of the city. Shouldn't this be in the trivia section?

Also, why is there no mention of the first golf course built in Fontana (Sierra Lakes), or the new 60 million dollar county library nearing completion? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mracew (talkcontribs) 21:00, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, since no one has responded, I'll add that I find the comment <<..The production and consumption of methamphetamine and its distribution in much of the western United States by the Hells Angels [7] rose during this time.>> seems to be an attempt to disparage Fontana. The prominent placement of the comment, and the fact that it seems isolated and clunky. I am a Wiki newbie, so I will refrain from editing until I know what I'm doing. But I am announcing my intentions, here. mracew

I think the Kaiser Steel Mill should have its own page, has a bunch of movies filmed there, some history, plenty of links —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.164.65.21 (talk) 19:31, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

hells angels and the founder of fontana farms

its funny that someone put that hells angels started in fontana because in thier site, it says fontana/san bernardino.

a.b. miller started Fontana farms so technically he is considered the founder of fontana. not some guy named daniel. before fontana was known as Fontana,it was known as Rosena. this history is available in the cities library. Fontana's sphere of influence is 52.4 sq miles and the area that is in city limits is 41.5 sq miles . this is available at http://www.fontana.org/main/annexation/fontana_sb_county07.pdf

This page has alot of errors

i am surprised how many errors their are in this page. some of these need to get re edited because some of the information is wrong

Diversity section

I've asked for citations on this whole section. It seems like personal opinion or original research. Mracew (talk) 22:49, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to delete the whole section unless I get some rationale for keeping it. No citations means it is really just someone's personal POV. 7 days from now and it's gone...Mracew (talk) 04:36, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Fontana,_California&diff=prev&oldid=214583064#Diversity I wish a new more accurate informative section on local diversity was made, but the 2010 US census data should exhibit the plural majority of Hispanics and a high proportion of Blacks and Asian-Americans, and the legacy of the Kaiser Still Mill brought in European immigrants and Americans from the South/east US. 71.102.21.238 (talk) 02:54, 20 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

From the famous natives: The Crlenica Brothers [pronounced tsir-LEN-itsa], a local Slavic “Tamburitza” musical group, lived in Fontana, had a music store on Arrow Blvd., and played music locally for Fontana's large Slavic population. Unbeknownst to most Fontana residents, they also did some movie work in Hollywood, performing on the soundtrack of "Dr. Zhivago" (Lara’s Theme), and also in the movie “Patton,” in the Russian dance scene.

And conservapedia should mention Fontana one of the nation's largest Polish American communities along with Gary, Indiana; Chicago; Pittsburgh; and Scranton, Pennsylvania all known for large steel manufacturing mills attracted Polish immigrants and ethnic Slavic peoples. http://conservapedia.com/Polish_Americans 71.102.21.238 (talk) 02:36, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Frank Finazzo, DDS

Hi Frank. I'm sure you are proud of what you've accomplished in Fontana. I don't, however, think that you've quite achieved the notability needed to be included in this article. Please stop inserting yourself into the article. If you are not Frank, then I'm sure he's happy to have such a persistent fan...:-)Mracew (talk) 20:54, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

why isnt eric birch high school and citrus high school added to the list of schools? they both are in fontana and part of fusd —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.16.45.192 (talk) 07:03, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

someone should add the schools eric birch high school and citrus high school to the list of schools

why isn't Eric birch high school and citrus high school added to the list of schools? they both are in fontana and part of fusd in fontana they just are considered by the district as continuation high schools —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.16.45.192 (talk) 07:05, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea! I will add Birch and Citrus Continuation High Schools to the list, as well as Jurupa Hills High (under construction). I think they weren't added originally because they don't have their own articles to link to, the way Fontana, Miller and Kaiser do. Summit seems to be too new to have it's own article yet, also.Mracew (talk) 04:04, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Massive additions

I have made numerous and large additions to this article over the past couple of days, most notably with several uploaded images I created. I hope I haven't messed it all up too badly! I've tried to keep these edits both in compliance with the official guidelines, and well cited, but there is still work to be done. There are some subheadings that need to have information filled into them. I'll keep dredging the internet for sources, but please do help. I personally feel that Fontana deserves more detail on Wikipedia than had previously been available. I'm trying to make that happen! JWut89LA (talk) 05:16, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think you've improved the article 1000 percent. I have been trying to keep an eye on the page for some time now, and am very glad to read what you have done. Keep it up.Mracew (talk) 01:12, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Endangered fly and rat in Fontana

should there be a mention of the kangaroo rat and the endangered fly. since these to animals are part of the reason that the fontana mills mall was not built. the fly and the rat have delayed several projects around town. so should there be a mention on how the fly affects the community's planning? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.25.19.76 (talk) 05:18, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notable natives vs notable residents

Hello "Who then was a gentleman?"

I undid your change to notable natives. I see no rationale for the change, as "residents" seems to indicate current residency status, which is of course not an accurate description of the people listed in the section. A native is a person from an area, and persons not really native but having simply resided in Fontana at some point are clearly in the minority for the section, and clearly identified as such. Stay cool :-) Mracew (talk) 01:58, 30 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

So, how about a super-accurate header? I have submitted "Notable natives, residents, or former residents" as a reasonable compromise (although not as sexy and alliterative). Mracew (talk) 04:43, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Crawford Canyon Water does it exist still or did it change its name?

i was looking for the water companies mentioned in this article. i was able to find all of them except Crawford Canyon Water company. i found their number which allowed me to find the address for the company that is supposedly located in grand terrace. but when i went to this location, there was nothing there just a empty lot so does anyone else think that this waster company is now Riverside Highland Water Company (the only one in grand terrace) which recently moved from one area of grand terrace to their current location within grand terrace? or was this company absorbed into fontana water or west valley water district?75.24.245.242 (talk) 08:21, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

i dont think that it exist anymore because in this [document] there is no mentioned in crawford canyon water company 75.16.43.178 (talk) 03:04, 12 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

former tv stations located in fontana

does anyone know if the library has old documents of the old tv stations that were located in fontana. i remembered going to the library and reading that channel 40 was located here(its now channel 33 or 23 dont remember —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.27.239.23 (talk) 07:16, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki policy regarding citations or removing uncited information

I don't think it is actually policy to "immediately remove" uncited claims. At least, thats not what it says here...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:NOCITE Mracew (talk) 16:13, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • It is for obvious nonsense. A quick google for "speed racer fontana" shows this article as the top result, with no other cite verifying it. It is a claim fails the most basic tests of logic and reasonableness. None of the pages about Speed Racer the character or the various works featuring him make any parallel claim. Yet this can never be removed? Have we really abandoned all pretense of Wikipedia being a source of factual information? 128.114.59.182 (talk) 23:27, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I can NOT emphasize this enough. There seems to be a terrible bias among some editors that some sort of random speculative 'I heard it somewhere' pseudo information is to be tagged with a 'needs a cite' tag. Wrong. It should be removed, aggressively, unless it can be sourced. This is true of all information, but it is particularly true of negative information about living persons. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.114.59.182 (talk) 23:39, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To the person without an account who also immediately removed uncited claims:

Ken Prymus is listed on Classmates as graduating from Fontana High in 1965 http://www.classmates.com/directory/public/memberprofile/list.htm?regId=8698547840 Mracew (talk) 04:27, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

then put the cite in the article! But if he's not notable enough for his own page, he's probably not notable enough to list. Don't take it personally, I'm just trying to make the article encyclopedic. Don't fight me just because your ego's bruised.128.114.59.182 (talk) 06:11, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
oh, and if you do put it back on the list, put it in the right place! Don't just add things to the end of the list. It's alphabetical by last name.169.233.38.156 (talk) 07:13, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

top employers

should csi steel be included in the article. it employs over 1000 employees but it is in the sphere of influence. so should it be included75.28.110.96 (talk) 02:54, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

i think so its still considered fontana75.24.250.46 (talk) 06:06, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
i think it csi should be added but it should have an asterisk saying that it is in its sphere. the only reason that the city does not include it in its top employers is because it is not technically considered part of the city. though if it was, it would be tied for the 4th largest employer. the city of fontana really has 1000 employees. i set up an interview with edward raya{hr director}(was for a project) (he said that there was actually 1000 employees. this current figure only reflects full time workers part time workers are excluded.Javiern (talk) 07:48, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Geographic_location

The Template:Geographic_location by wikipedia.org standard goes near the bottom of the article. The sample give for the Template:Geographic_location is Ottawa or Ottawa#External_links. Check it out! Please note the placement, it at the bottom under External links! Fontana, California is the only city with Template:Geographic_location in the middle of the article. Thus it will be moved to the External links placement, now.
