Jon Burgerman (1979 - ) is an English-born artist from the UK currently living in Queens, New York. He graduated from The Nottingham Trent University in Nottingham, England in 2001.

Mr Burgerman images seem to have each been created in one burst of creative energy, his pen never leaving the paper once it has made contact, until the image is complete. The result is that his drawings have a fresh immediacy that make them as fun as they are visually impactful. He refers to his work rather modestly as 'doodles' but really what he's doing is creating his own distinctive artwork at every available opportunity - whether it's on a pad of Post-Its just for fun, or on a larger scale in a variety of mediums for an enviable list of clients ranging from The Science Museum to Sky, Pepsi, Sony and Kidrobot.

Life and work

Burgerman studied art foundation in Bournville, Birmingham, England, and then Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University.

Jon Burgerman has risen to be one of the prominent artists in the recent boom of practitioners who traverse the disciplines of contemporary art, design, illustration and entrepreneurism. His award winning work can be seen globally from gallery and bedroom walls to cinema and iPhone screens. A sense of British self-deprecation, dry humour and modern-day anxiety imbues his work along with an enthusiasm for salad.

Burgerman exhibits internationally and has shown work alongside artists such as Banksy, Damien Hirst, Vivienne Westwood and Gerald Scarfe. His work is collected worldwide and is in the permanent collections of The Victoria and Albert Museum and The Science Museum in London. He gives lectures, public performances and occasionally pop concerts with his band Anxieteam.

In 2008 he appeared as a guest on the popular BBC TV show Blue Peter and in 2009 was part of the original The Underbelly Project, which saw selected artists exhibit in a secret incomplete 100-year-old subway station deep underneath the streets of New York City.

The year 2008 also saw the publication by IdN of a 300-page monograph of Jon's work, Pens Are My Friends, that came with an accompanying DVD of films, animations and talks, whilst Kidrobot released the 14 piece mini figure vinyl toy collection The Heroes of Burgertown.

In 2013 Jon co-produced and provided the artwork for documentary film The Great Hip Hop Hoax (dir. Jeanie Finlay), which premiered at SXSW film festival, Austin, Texas.

He has received a Cannes Lions Advertising award, two D&AD Silver award nominations and has collaborated with brands that include: Pepsi, CocaCola, Nike, Sony, Sky, Kidrobot, Puma, Nintendo, MTV, Levis, 55DSL, Miss Sixty, Little Big Planet, AOL, Size? and Rip Curl. He also designed a special sick bag for Virgin Atlantic flights.
