In a remote wilderness loggers and environmental activists must join together to survive against zombies resulting from a logging company's genetic experiments in an attempt to increase lumber production which will in theory lead to a 15% increase in profit. A lumberjack is injured when cutting a tree which has been [[tree spiking|spiked]] by environmentalists. He is infected by genetically modified tree sap, which causes him to turn into a zombie. The survivors attempt to leave the area, but the corporation has set up barriers and snipers in helicopters. The group are rescued from a sniper attack by second group of loggers, who take them to their compound. There, tensions rise quickly, and the leader attempts to rape Rita, one of the eco-activists. Carter, a chemist for the corporation, is bullied mercilessly, as they suspect that he is complicit in the events. Carter sneaks out of the compound and lets in zombies. All but Rita die in the ensuing chaos.

Zombies are on the loose somewhere in the Pacific Northwest, and our heroes must survive them.

The zombies in the film ''Severed'' are similar to the standard zombie in movement, however there is a slight difference in their appearance; as opposed to having a pale and bloodless skin tone, many of the zombies have a yellow discoloration, and sport dark veins on the side of their head.<ref name=tla>by David Greenberg, [http://www.tlavideo.com/product/1-1132-233401_severed-forest-of-the-dead.html?sn=1 tlavideo.com], review of ''Severed: Forest of the Dead'', Retrieved 10-01-2008</ref>

As with most zombie movies, in order to be killed, one must remove the zombie's head or destroy its brain, to quote the movie, “you have to sever the head; it’s the only way to kill them", although wounding a zombie appears to be easier than in other zombie movies.<ref name=auburn/><ref name=buried>by Gravefigger, [http://www.buried.com/moviereviews/horror.php?id=2381 buried.com], review "Severed: Forest of the Dead (2006)", Retrieved 10-01-2008</ref>
