Please help! Go to the page "Andorra", as in the country, go down to the subsection "largest cities" (itself a subjection of the section "Statistics", and there should be an image titled, "Cache me if you can.gif", that links to "List of United States senators". Welcome—ask questions about how to use or edit Wikipedia! (Am I in the right place?)
    • For other types of questions, use the search box, see the reference desk or Help:Contents. If you have comments about a specific article, use that article's talk page.
    • Do not provide your email address or any other contact information. Answers will be provided on this page only.
    • If your question is about a Wikipedia article, draft article, or other page on Wikipedia, tell us what it is!
    • Check back on this page to see if your question has been answered.
    • For real-time help, use our IRC help channel, #wikipedia-en-help.
    • New editors may prefer the Teahouse, a help area for beginners (but please don't ask in both places).

In Medical school in Canada, there's a "For the..." hatnote, pointing to the redlinked Medical school in Canada (disambiguation). When I try to remove it, it isn't there in the Edit window. What gives? InedibleHulk (talk) 23:54, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That is part of the built-in display of the hat note template for the standard disambiguation use. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 00:07, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The documentation is at Template:About, but it doesn't show what happens for the two-parameter version {{About|USE1|USE2}} which was in the article:
The article improperly said {{About|institutions that grant Doctor of Medicine (M.D. or M.D.C.M.) degrees only|information on other systems, see [[alternative medicine]].}} It should have said {{About|institutions that grant Doctor of Medicine (M.D. or M.D.C.M.) degrees only|information on other systems|alternative medicine}}. This produces:

    hodgeville sask. elementary school

The new Hodgeville elementary school was opened in 1966. I became principal of the school for the 1996 school year.

Hello, Dennis. If you have an improvement to a page, in general you are welcome to be bold and edit the article; ideally all information in an article should be referenced to reliable published sources: personal knowledge is not enough. (I notice that the article Hodgeville School is sorely lacking in references.) In this case, because of your Conflict of interest, your recommended course would be to post the correction, with a source, to the article's Talk page Talk:Hodgeville School, and let an uninvolved editor make the change. If nothing happens (eg because there are not enough people going to that page, then please come back here with your references (I've just had a quick look, and failed to find any references which mention you and the school; but there may be local reliable sources). --ColinFine (talk) 12:23, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In what cases leads to my wikipedia account will get suspended?

Ram nareshji (talk) i mean i want to create a wikipedia article about some website, but i fear about if i done any mistakes while creating will it leads to my account suspensions? & also in what cases leads to my wikipedia account suspension? so i will be more careful when creating & editing wiki articles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ram nareshji (talkcontribs) 04:02, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Terminology used at Wikipedia: Accounts may be blocked from editing and users may be banned.
However, that rarely occurs from a mistake or two by a new editor, rather happens because of repeated instances of active disruption and ignoring warnings.
Note that if you have a connection to the website for which you wish to create an article you have a conflict of interest, and should NOT create or actively edit that article. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 04:12, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Venezuela: IPA

Venezuela claims the Spanish pronunciation to be [be.neˈswela], but also to be [βeneˈswela]. Shouldn't we mark the Castilian and the local pronunciations? (Please any linguistical mistakes in this post...) --92.74.113.25 (talk) 05:12, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What is the relevance of Castilian? Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 17:21, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't see two conflicting statements as to what the Spanish pronunciation is. Did I miss something? If there are two versions of the IPA statement of the Spanish pronunciation, then they should certainly be labeled as to dialects. If only one is listed, it would nonetheless be useful to label it as Venezuelan Spanish, because it might otherwise be thought to be Castilian. On the other hand, this discussion can be taken to Talk: Venezuela. Robert McClenon (talk) 22:14, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

hey can you help me with bitcoin donations stuff

Can you help me find out why they don't take bitcoin donation? I'm so tired of the constant badgering for money without accepting my sole method of contribution. Are there links to explain why wikipedia won't take bitcoin that someone could share?

    173.212.65.146 (talk) 05:36, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You can see the Foundation's response to the request of Bitcoin's in their fundraiser FAQ. Basically, Bitcoin is being considered and may be a future option, but for now, Wikimedia's position is to use currencies "backed by the full faith and credit of an issuing government". ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 06:03, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Minor edits

Good morning, I want to mark all my edits as minor edits. How can I change my preferences to click v = This is a minor edit below the edit box as standard? Here Help:Minor edit I didn't found an explanation. Could you add some words there too? Thanks --Frze > talk 08:14, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

See Should we remove the Preference setting to "Mark all edits minor by default" ?. The preference setting was removed sometime in late 2010, but the discussion notes that users who had been properly using this preference in the past can probably install a javascript to restore the functionality. That discussion also mentions marking major edits as minor being problematic. I found Wikipedia:Vandalism#Gaming the system, which identifies marking bad faith edits as minor to get less scrutiny as problematic. Also, per MediaWiki:Abusefilter-warning-minoredit, making large changes when marking the edit as minor results in editors receiving the notice and added to the Abuse Log. I'm not sure if that warning filter is working, see Change history for Edit Filter #368. MediaWiki:Abusefilter-warning-minoredit reads "If you are logged in and encounter this message frequently, you may want to disable the "Mark all edits minor by default" setting under the Editing tab in your preferences.", so it may be out of date. -- Jreferee (talk) 10:36, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Best idea would be to leave the reverting user a message on their talk page asking for clarification :) Samwalton9 (talk) 23:22, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I thought about doing that, but when I looked at his user page he seemed to be getting mad at people for writing on his user page instead of the article page. I guess I have to be extra nice to try not to do the wrong thing. Bob the goodwin (talk) 23:28, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, then wait for a reply on the talk page; there's no rush! I've tidied up the multiple RfCs you started to just one by the way. For future reference, when asking questions to determine consensus there is no need to start an RfC unless the topic is hotly debated, just leaving a message there and waiting for replies is good enough. Thanks, I am starting to get how it works. I am a little embarrassed by my rookie mistakes. It is a little shocking at first to have the wolves come after you, but in retrospect they were both correct and helpful once I learned a little. Borrisokane Athletic Club - reference borrisokane history

    Hi there ,

I was browsing through the borrisokane web page and upon reading about the athletic club I think it should make reference to the clubs founder , a Mr. John O' Farrell . Mr. O' Farrell founded this club some 30 years ago and has coached and successfully trained athletes to compete at European level . Borrisokane is one of the most successful clubs in ireland with a population of just over a thousand people . Mr.O 'Farrell still runs the club today and should be acknowledged .

    Regards his son

    John O' Farrell jnr — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.255.101.213 (talk) 13:24, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

We cover subjects based upon what third party reliable sources say about the subject. If you have sources that show the impact your father has had on the subject, then you can place them on the article's talk page as potential sources, but as someone with a conflict of interest, you should not be editing articles directly to add content about your father. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 13:46, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
since we do not have Borrisokane Athletic Club - are you talking about this article Borrisokane#Sport or this one Borrisokane GAA? if you are talking about the first article, mention of the manager of the club in the article about the town would probably be WP:UNDUE weight to a trivial detail in the view of the town itself. If you are talking about the second, the mention of a long term manager would probably be appropriate, if properly sourced. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 15:57, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Option for using svg images in articles?

I have noticed that Wikipedia rasterizes all vector images before inserting them into articles. Is there any option for telling Wikipedia to insert the original (vector) versions of the images instead of the rasterized ones? —Kri (talk) 13:45, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No. Media:Example.svg links directly to the original file instead of the file page File:Example.svg which displays a png for svg images, but the svg cannot be displayed in articles or other pages. See more about svg files at commons:Help:SVG. A link like Media:Example.svg would often break license conditions by not letting the viewer see the file page. failure to add relevant page

There seems to be no one responsible for much of anything at WIKI. I have asked repeatedly for a site to be added, but it has not happened. This was a originally a site that was taken down when we added it ourselves, but a page that would provide information about a university college, identical to those of other, similar colleges. It was removed as being too commercial, but that makes no sense given that it paralleled other non-profit universities' college sites.

This lack of professional and appropriate decision-making on the part of WIKI only confirms my growing belief that it is an unreliable and mercurial source of information. As a professor, I steer my students away from it and do not allow at as a source of any kind for research papers.

This is simply for someone's information, but since there is no one to talk at this peculiar institution, I do not imagine that anyone will pay attention or that it will result in any improvements in the current process. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.119.40.26 (talk) 14:25, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. It appears that you may not fully understand how Wikipedia works. The encyclopedia is written by volunteers and no editor (other than relatively little employed at the Wikimedia Foundation) is paid for their time here, so please do not accuse the site of being unprofessional and unable to make good decisions. As for your concern, I'm not sure which university college page it was since you haven't mentioned but you should understand some of Wikipedia's policies. Firstly, and assumedly the reason that the article was deleted, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia which means that the content must be written from a Neutral point of view; this means that articles which appear to be blatant advertisement will be removed. Your argument that other university college's articles are similar in nature to the deleted one is irrelevant, Wikipedia is not perfect and there are an incredible amount of bad articles on the site which editors have simply missed.
As for the comment on steering your students away from using Wikipedia as a source, I would think that as a professor you would understand that the sources Wikipedia uses should ALWAYS be used before Wikipedia itself for a research paper, that you would say this only because of your opinion that Wikipedia isn't reliable surprises me. Hope I helped, feel free to respond here or on my talk page if you are still not sure on any of the above. Samwalton9 (talk) 14:51, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This is the only edit by your IP address and you didn't mention which page it is about so we cannot see the appropriateness of the page or whether you asked for its addition in the right place. A look at this help desk will show that posters usually get replies quickly, just as you did. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:57, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
as a professor, you SHOULD be steering your students away from citing Wikipedia as a source. Good for you! Incidentally, we do not consider Wikipedia a reliable source, either. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 15:27, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Wolf Ticket" photo has been removed

At the request of my close personal friend, Dr. Herbert Foster, I recently submitted a photograph of the "Wolf Ticket" (also labeled "woof ticket") to be included in the Wikipedia write-up of Wolf Ticket. The article described the ticket and the fact that it first appeared in his book. But I neglected to include any copyright information. That information is shown below. This information, along with the information contained in your write-up should be sufficient to allow the picture to remain intact. Earlier this week, it had been removed. Thanks for your help in this regard. Howard Kight

Commons:File:Wolf Ticcket.jpg was deleted because it included no copyright tag. If the image is free of copyright it can be loaded to commons again, or if another suitable copyright tag is available it can be loaded to Wikipedia. Details are at Wikipedia:File copyright tags/Comprehensive. You need to ascertain who owns the copyright to the image, and they would need to grant the appropriate release of copyright. --David Biddulph (talk) 20:08, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
For most purposes, images cannot be used in Wikipedia unless they are either in the public domain, or have been explicitly released under one of the CC licences (which allow them to be used by anybody, for any purpose, with proper attribution). To release an image, the copyright holder should follow the procedure in Donating copyright materials. There is a limited possibility of using non-free material, provided such use complies with all of the Non free content criteria. --ColinFine (talk) 21:43, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Citation template error

Rome Catholic School (Rome, New York) has an error with its citation template, but since I never use citation templates, I don't know how to fix it. Code is

    {{cite web|url=http://www.romecatholic.org/PAGES/tradition.htm|title=Rome Catholic-Proud of Our Tradition|accessdate=2007-07-31|publisher=Rome Catholic Schools website|author=RCHS}} {{Dead link|date=October 2010|bot=H3llBot}}

Here, this produces a result of

RCHS. "Rome Catholic-Proud of Our Tradition". Rome Catholic Schools website. Retrieved 2007-07-31. [dead link]

However, in the article there's a big long space like a tab character between "07-" and "31". Any idea what's wrong? I deleted the last few characters in the accessdate and retyped them, in case we had a no-width character in there, but nothing changed. Nyttend (talk) 21:54, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    I don't see this issue in the article. Samwalton9 (talk) 21:59, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ooh. Are you sure it isn't because the reflist is columned, and combined with the width of your browser window you see the 31 on the next line? Samwalton9 (talk) 22:01, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I see a large gap between the words "Catholic" and "Schools", but can't see the reason why. --David Biddulph (talk) 22:07, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's often Wikipedia which needs purging when template edits don't propagate. See Wikipedia:Purge. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:16, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    @PrimeHunter - Thanks for the comment - and link to WP:Purge - it's appreciated - added { {purge}} to several template pages (ie, Template:Comets and Template:Extrasolar planet counts) - seems to work well - thanks again - and - Enjoy! :) Drbogdan (talk) 02:27, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
@Drbogdan: It has no effect to purge the templates. It is pages using the templates which may have to be purged if you want them to update faster. Usually it's better to just wait for them to update automatically at some time. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:53, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter: Thanks for your comments - they're appreciated - for some reason, at least in the case of Template:Extrasolar planet counts, a "null edit" (or equivalent) seems needed to propagate the edit - not sure if this problem is the same (or even related) to the one with Template:Comets - if interested, a discussion of the Template:Extrasolar planet counts concern is here => Template talk:Extrasolar planet counts#Template caching issue - any suggestions/workarounds/etc welcome of course - in any case - Thanks again for your earlier comments - and - Enjoy! :) Drbogdan (talk) 14:19, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I listed several books that are not on the bibliography. I explained their importance, that they have been confirmed by many able people. Hi Achilles, first thing to mention is that no page on Wikipedia is owned by any one person, including administrators; the person may not be an administrator on the site and definitely doesn't own that particular page. It is, however, next to impossible to answer your question because I don't know which page you're talking about, this appears to be your only edit to Wikipedia from this account. If you can link us to the article I'll help you out. Samwalton9 (talk) 22:41, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Achilles496: If you edited a bibliography previously using an IP address before creating a user ID, and didn't provide a reliable source or an edit summary, it is likely that your contributions would have been reverted. Sea silk

    Dear Friends:

I have a long-time Swiss friend who is probably the world's top expert on the very rare and beautiful fabric known in English as Sea silk made from the byssus or fibres produced by certain seashells.

She writes: "The German Wikipedia on "sea-silk (byssus) is very bad and full of legends and mistakes. I tried already to make corrections, but I don't manage to insert them in the text. This kind of work is just not my cup of tea... I tried to find somebody of Wikipedia here in Switzerland, to tell about the problems. No chance to get somebody on the phone, or to find a mail address of a real person."

Is there anyone out there who can suggest someone who would be capable of fixing this article up? I would be quite willing to help them with any queries or technical information, references, etc (in English - sorry - since I don't know German). It might be possible to just translate the English article and transfer the illustrations, etc.

I wrote the article on Sea silk in the English Wikipedia and am pretty current with literature on the subject.

Please contact me if you can help - or know of anyone who can.

    Thanks, John Hill (talk) 03:29, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

@John Hill: Hi John. Since each language Wikipedia is separate, you will likely need to contact someone or post to a help forum at the German Wikipedia. A random contributor to the German Wikipedia is much more likely to speak English on average than a random contributor here is to speak German, so if you post there in English I don't think it unlikely that will get a response. I personally received lots of help when I posted to a German Wikipedia help page. When I did so I wrote out my question in English and then wrote "I don't speak German so I am posting this below using machine translation. I hope it does not come out too garbled." (and then used Google translate but fixed the wikilinks and such other stuff up where it changed them). Where to seek help there? Well, the German Wikipedia's help desk is at de:Wikipedia:Fragen zur Wikipedia. The talk page of the article, as you probably know, is at de:Diskussion:Byssus – a tailored place to post, but whether it gets any action depends on the number of watchers which is likely small. I have also taken a look at contributors to the article and its talk page and the only one whose accounts appear active is user Ghilt, whose talk page is at de:Benutzer Diskussion:Ghilt. Keep in mind that the German Wikipedia, just like this one, requires people to provide citations to reliable sources that verify the changes they wish to make. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 04:30, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Posing a question at their Embassy is also a possibility, though I don't know how often it gets checked (though a few years back when I was translating captions for an image as I put it on different Wikipedias, I would often ask for help at the embassies and got replies back for most of them). - Purplewowies (talk) 05:11, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Incorrect "Days Ago" Calculation

On the Apple Keynote software page [2], the Infobox section indicates that the latest stable release was on November 21, and says "33 days ago". However, this 33 days is displayed on December 28th, some 37 days after November 21. The code for that date is "latest release date = {{release date and age|2013|11|21}}". Note that the page was reloaded so as to avoid displaying a cached value. Even accounting for time zone differences, the 33 days indicated is incorrectly calculated. Thanks.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.8.149.129 (talkcontribs)

Hey. You correctly identified the issue but I am guessing did not do a true page cache purge (or it did not take, which does sometimes happen). In any event, I also saw the error, but it was immediately fixed when I did the purge. Note that if you go back there and still see the error, you might need to purge your own computer's cache memory. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 04:38, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    sy barash regatta

Why isn't there more information on the sy barash regatta? There should be a list of bands and the date(s) they played. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.58.215.91 (talk) 04:57, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The reason why there isn't more information in the article is because no editors have found reliably sourced encyclopedic content that they wanted to add to the article, but you could change that. The reason why the specific content you are mentioning is not included is probably because as an encyclopedia, there are things that Wikipedia is NOT, and a program guide or list of trivia is one of them. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 14:52, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

How to move a page from /User to without /User

I want to move my page which is currently at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:MyBusTickets to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MyBusTickets (without the user prefix)?

Please help with pointers — Preceding unsigned comment added by MyBusTickets (talkcontribs) 07:00, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your submission at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/MyBusTickets was declined 3 times. You deleted the feedback from that earlier submission but I have restored it. If you wish to improve your submission to address the problems, and if you can demonstrate that the subject meet's Wikipedia's requirements for notability, then you can then resubmit it using the resubmit link which you had deleted. Your user page is intended for describing you as a user in the context of your Wikipedia editing, not for drafting an article, although you can use user subpages or a user sandbox to draft an article before submitting it for review. Note also that your user name appears to represent an organisation rather than an individual, so you need to read WP:CORPNAME and choose a new user name. If you are trying to write an article about an organization with which you are connected, you also need to read about conflict of interest. --David Biddulph (talk) 07:19, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Personal page

How do I create a personal page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.244.185.4 (talk) 10:14, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Unregistered users cannot create a userpage. In order to do so, you must create an account. But be aware, Wikipedia is not a hosting service. Accounts are for people wanting to help with the encyclopedia. Not just to have a web page somewhere for your own personal use. If you want that, there are many other places on the web that are more suitable. Dismas|(talk) 10:48, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Classical music database

Hello! I am a private researcher on a specific topic in classical music. I collected a huge pile of data (>10.000 data sets) which is unique in the world. The topic is pretty specific and my database so huge, that no publishing house wants to publish this. Therefore I am searching for different ways to get my results into public. I thought Wikipedia could be a possible place for this. Unfortunately I am researching just on a specific composition genre (concertos) of just a specific time (20th century), so my results dd not fit into the existing wikipedia articles. Are there different platforms to create a whole new database (something like IMSLP)? Is there a specific group or person I can contact for more details? Thanks, Tobias — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.180.15.183 (talk) 12:01, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I may be 100% wrong, and I'm comfortable with that, because I don't know anything about New Zealand flora, but since you're asking a Yahoo! Editing a chart

Hi! I've been over at the List of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation episodes trying to remove a link to Chaos theory in the season 2 chart because the link appears irrelevant. But there's nothing there to edit when I touch the "edit" button. Instead, it's just something with these "{ }" around it. How do you edit these charts? I've never had such a problem until today. Thanks! Survivorfan1995 (talk) 21:41, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The code {{:CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (season 2)}} means that the page CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (season 2) is transcluded. You did right by editing that page.[3] Your edit had not yet propagated automatically to List of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation episodes so I purged that page and the link disappeared. Is there any policy for this?

I was recently reviewing the Milo Goes to College article and noticed that whenever referencing the album's respective artist (Descendents) a "the" is prefixed in front of the band name despite this never being included in any official releases, advertisements, etc. I understand "the" is usually instinctively added to band names whose titles wouldn't sound grammatically correct otherwise, but I still feel that including it in an article is in error. I would be more than happy to correct any instances of this I come across, but I would first like to know if there is any policy regarding what to do here. Thanks. felt_friend 23:42, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Forgot to add that I replaced all instances of "The Descendents" with "Descendents" in Milo Goes to College already. From there I checked the article for Descendents and noticed it contained many instances of "The Descendents" as well. Thus, seeing as this error seems to be fairly common, I brought the matter here. felt_friend 23:48, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
In general we "follow the sources". Do the sources most often use simply "Descendents" or do they use "the Descendents"? Its not exactly the same, but Wikipedia_talk:Requests_for_mediation/The_Beatles#Closure over whether to use "the Beatles" or "The Beatles" may give you some insight (if it doesnt cause seizures). -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 11:36, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Highlighting a passage of text when using inline tag

I am pretty sure there is a way when using a cleanup template like {{Clarify}} to force the highlighting of the specific passage of text in a sentence that is in need of clarification, but I have forgotten how exactly to do that. But when I am changing the width in #expr: ( * / ) round 0 even from say 200 to 100 the box is not getting any smaller on the page I'm trying to put this on, help?

    Collapsible lists with tabulated information

I would like to spruce up the list of t'ai chi ch'uan forms article by adding more information that would be collapsible. At this point, the type of arrangement I'm aiming for is to have minor headers that show the number of steps in the form, then collapsible lists under each header, then to have each list expandable to show the list of steps in a tabulated form showing the step number, the hanzi, the pinyin and lastly the translation. This is the idea of the layout:

13 forms ← the minor header
    • [show] Chen (create by Master Chen Bing base on the movements from (Old Frame, First Routine, Lao Jia Yi Lu)) ← collapsed form lists
    • [show] Chen (aka Five Element Chen) subset of either Old Frame One or Small Frame (Grandmaster Zhu Tian Cai)
    • [show] Dong Yue (East Mountain) Combined
    • [show] Wudang (Zhang SanFeng - Wudang Nei Jia Quan) - Shi San Shi
    • [show] Yang Family 13-Form
    • [hide] Chu style Yang form Long 108 and Short 37 movements ← expanded form list
    1. | hanzi | pinyin | Commencing form ← tabulated step list
    ...
    13. | hanzi | pinyin | Closing form
16 forms ← next minor header
    • [show] Yang Standardized
    • [show] Chen Standardized
    • [show] Actually Chen 4 Step (see above) popularly repeated in four directions of the compass (Grandmaster Zhu Tian Cai)
    • [show] Yang Family 16-Form

Centre for Theatre and Film, University of Allahabad

The Centre for Theatre and Film, established in 2010, was a pioneering endeavor by the University of Allahabad, as part of its IIDS, approved by the UGC, and became perhaps the first such centre in the Asian subcontinent to offer not a diploma in either theatre or film, as existing institutions have done, but to offer a Master's Course integrating theatre and film. With Sachin Tewari as its founding coordinator, the Centre has already cleared two batches of students, who have acquitted themselves well in different dimensions. And now, the third is nearing completion. However, in spite of UGC sanctions for faculty,no steps have been taken so far by the University to make appointments and consolidate the functioning of the Centre, which must depend on Visiting Faculty - as and when approved at snail's pace by the administration: in its absence, teaching, must remain at a near stand still. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 14.98.100.56 (talk) 17:27, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I use the userboxtop and bottom templates. I've edited the listing of the template code to what is displayed below and hopefully clearer (I named the things that are supposed to be userboxes to really obvious names):
    {{Userboxtop|Title of userbox group here}}
    {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Userboxes/Userbox I want to arrange}}
    {{Template:Another userbox}}
    {{User:Purplewowies/Userboxes/I like userboxes}}
    {{Userboxbottom}}

Basically, the top, {{userboxtop}}, and bottom, {{userboxbottom}} are what "contain" the boxes in this method, and you put the boxes you would like to organize between them. You can look on my userpage to see this in action. - Purplewowies (talk) 21:00, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Schizophrenia and Mental Illness language

Hello, to whom it may concern

I have schizophrenia and also work in the mental health field. I was surprised when reading your description of schizophrenia and LSD that you use the word schizophrenic. Just for your information and for the publics perspective, I am a person who has schizophrenia or is living with schizophrenia. It is improper to call me a schizophrenic just as it would be to call someone a cancer or broken leg. It is in fact poor grammar, I hope you understand what I am saying, we call it person first language and it is preferred we be addressed in the following manner. He/she is a person who has or is living with schizophrenia or just a person living with schizophrenia. Okay all you wikis get to work, please, I'll check back to see if you have changed, if not that's fine I am used to being labeled after 32 years of living with this illness. To suggest I am a schizophrenic or to say people are schizophrenics is just rude in this day and age. I would really appreciate it if you would write me back should you decide to change it, I can also help you to use person first language in all your other description's of mental illness or addictions. Thank you for your time and please let me know if I can be of any help in this matter. Peace.

Does purging clear all caches or only some?

As noted above, Template:Infobox Chinese/Korean was vandalized with "File:Michigan state police.gif".

I have gone through and purged the following articles that showed the vandalized template:

    Art name
    Far East
    Guanyin
    Li Bai
    Mahjong
    Yellow Sea
    Korean People's Army
    Sun Myung Moon
    Yalu River
    Soju
    Hapkido
    Tael
    Temple name
    Han River (Korea)
    Posthumous name
    Jiangshi

They currently look OK to me, but I have always wondered if purging clears the caches for all users, or if purging only clears some of the caches.

I know that purging does not always work with images in Commons; I am curious whether the same situation holds with English Wikipedia articles.

Over the next few hours, could various people check the above articles and let me know if they still see the vandalized template?

Note that there has been a spree of vandalism to templates and the community is having a discussion about what if anything could/should be done: Wikipedia:VPP#Template_Vandalism.-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 01:45, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Anonymous editors see a different cached version than logged in editors do, so to be complete, you have to purge things while logged in and while logged out.—Kww(talk) 01:48, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the tip! I checked over my list while logged out, and they all look OK. Stigmatella aurantiaca (talk) 02:00, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I know there are cases where IP's have seen an old version and logged in users the current version, but do you know or just guess that it's a factor whether a purging user was logged in or not? I haven't heard that before and the purge url's are the same. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:06, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I know that there is a cache that only presents data to logged-out users. Exactly when and why it is selected is unknown to me, but I know that it can only be purged by a logged-out user performing the purge.—Kww(talk) 03:31, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The last part doesn't match my experience and isn't mentioned in the help pages I have seen like Wikipedia:Purge and mw:Manual:Purge. It sometimes seems unpredictable who gets an old version and I will believe cases where it happened like that to you, but do you have a reference for "only"? Merge Discussion AND AfD AND page move ... AND complete re-write?

We had an article at Bollywood Hundred Crore Club which was essentially a series lists. Someone began a merge discussion to bring it back into the "parent list" article List of highest-grossing Indian films worldwide. Someone also initiated an AfD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bollywood Hundred Crore Club. While these are both going on, someone page moved the article to Bollywood films grossing above 100 crore.

I have rewritten a draft article that is not "list" based at User:TheRedPenOfDoom/sandbox/B100CC and have some support to move it live at the talk page Talk:Bollywood_films_grossing_above_100_crore#Unaceptable_moving_of_Bollywood_100_Crore_Club_to_Bollywood_films_grossing_above_100_crore but I am not sure with all the other stuff if I should just wait till the AfD is done or if I should just put it live now and ask for a speedy close of the afd or what is the best way to cause the least disruption? -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 02:39, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over 4 million articles and thought we were affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we have a reference desk, divided into various subject areas, where asking knowledge questions is welcome. Best of luck.Template:Z25 -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 03:46, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Question regarding Citation Style 1 parameter deprecation

Hi. Hopefully the help desk isn't understaffed right now (I don't mind waiting).

I want to know where centralized discussion regarding the deprecation of CS1 parameters might be found, since I have questions on the status of coauthors and month. I do a lot of heavy work updating pages' references, and don't want to do the wrong thing to hundreds of pages.

Are they "officially" deprecated, or just tentatively so?

I ask because although they're clearly struck out on the {{cite web}} page, yet other pages such as Wikipedia:Template messages/Sources of articles/Citation quick reference and especially the "citation toolbar" still use them. Have we not gotten around to updating them, or are we wavering on whether to abandon these?

I tried reading Help talk:Citation Style 1 but it got too confusing. One person said the deprecation wasn't really in effect and "why fix something that isn't broken", but another seemed to say it was deprecated and should no longer be used? Is Help talk:CS1 where centralized discussion takes place for this or what? Should I update all the doc pages I find that mention this, or hold off on that?

    Very confused. meteor_sandwich_yum (talk) 03:59, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have an answer for the big questions, but yes, Help talk:Citation Style 1 is the centralized talk page for Help:Citation Style 1 as well as all templates that use that citation style. - Purplewowies (talk) 06:34, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. That narrows my search significantly. meteor_sandwich_yum (talk) 08:40, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Reboot Video Game Was Canceled, Not Sure if Page Should Be Renamed

There is currently a page called Command & Conquer (2013 video game). The year is part of the title because it shared the same title as Command & Conquer (1995 video game). However, the game slated for release in 2013 was ultimately canceled. I would think that the 2013 should be removed from the title, since it's not going to be released in 2013 (or any time in the future), but there needs to be some way to distinguish it from the earlier game. It seems to me like the options are:

    • Keep Command & Conquer (2013 video game), which may lead to confusion about whether or not it was released
    • Change to Command & Conquer (canceled video game), which doesn't have a precedent on Wikipedia (all such page titles are redirects)
    • Change to Command & Conquer (canceled 2013 video game), which is rather wordy

The Wikipedia policies don't seem to cover what to do in an unusual situation like this, and I can't find any precedent for a game like this. I decided the best thing to do would be to ask here to get the opinions of those with a better understanding of the page naming conventions on Wikipedia. -Thunderforge (talk) 05:10, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I'm trying to make a footer related articles template on the Arabic Wikipedia easier to edit. The template in question is here: ar:قالب:منظ حادث طيران. The English template it is based off of is located here: Template:Aviation accident orgs.

I tried making the items bulleted in the Arabic like in the English, but the effect isn't the same, and on the Arabic it looks like a bulleted list instead of a condensed list separated by bullet points. What is going on?

    Thanks WhisperToMe (talk) 10:18, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You need to copy the line |listclass = hlist to get the items formatted as a "horizontal list". -- John of Reading (talk) 10:25, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Shukaran! (Thank you) WhisperToMe (talk) 10:38, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Vandalism that CAN'T BE REMOVED

Please help! Go to the page "Andorra", as in the country, go down to the subsection "largest cities" (itself a subjection of the section "Statistics"), and there should be an image titled, "Cache me if you can.gif", that links to "List of United States senators". It's obviously vandalism, BUT I CAN'T REMOVE IT, it doesn't seem to show in the "View history" mode, and it shows up in BOTH Firefox and Chrome, so this is no browser bug. Please help, can anyone remove the vandalism? Many thanks to you if you do! -- 58.35.229.132 (talk) 12:11, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
