Finch was an American post-hardcore/alternative rock band from Temecula, California. The band is currently on hiatus.

History

Finch came into being in the late 1990's, originally as a Deftones cover band called "Numb." After adding guitarist Randy "R2K" Strohmeyer to their lineup, the band signed to Drive-Thru Records. The newly-renamed Finch released their first EP, entitled "Falling Into Place," in 2001. The EP sold over 6,000 copies within a few months of its release. The band would be shuffled from Drive-Thru to MCA Records and finally to Geffen Records before its next release.

To embark on their first full-length album, the band entered Big Fish Studios in Encinitas, California, along with producer Mark Trombino (blink 182, Jimmy Eat World), in August 2001. Finch released the sum of their efforts, What It Is to Burn, in early 2002. The title track would later be released as a single, and perhaps the band's largest success to date.

Finch also contributed a song to the 2003 Underworld soundtrack, entitled "Worms of the Earth." (The track would also be included on a CD released by Atticus, Dragging the Lake 2.)

Say Hello to Sunshine

After this time the band largely fell from the public eye, and the band faced some changes for the recording of its sophomore effort, Say Hello to Sunshine. Pressure from Geffen to finish the album quickly prompted the band to fire former producer Mark Trombino; he was replaced by Jason Cupp. Also, founding band member and former drummer Alex Pappas left the band due to musical differences; he was replaced by Marc Allen. Finch finally released Say Hello To Sunshine on June 7, 2005.

Current Status

On February 19, 2006, a posting from Finch's booking agent on a reputable alternative music website, Absolutepunk.net, revealed that the group is "officially on an 'indefinite hiatus'. Members of the band are currently jamming with other projects." [1]

Derek Doherty and Randy Strohmeyer have been involved in the progressive rock band The Sound of Animals Fighting since 2004, but did not contribute to the newest album Lover, The Lord Has Left Us.. due to the fact that they were on tour.

Randy Strohmeyer and Derek Doherty have announced that they currently in a band with Rx Bandits’s Joe Troy called the Quadruple Duo.

Rumors say that Randy Strohmeyer has said he is working on his own material, that is very different from Finch's sound.

Marc Allen is currently in the group Helen Earth Band, with his brother Adam.

Former member Alex Pappas formed Redgun Radar in 2004. The band is currently touring.

The hiatus was confirmed shortly after with a post by the band on their official website.
