Devar Hipparagi is a town in Bijapur district, about 35 km to the east of Bijapur. It is in the Indian state of Karnataka.
Geography
Devar Hipparagi is located at 16°55′N 76°14′E / 16.92°N 76.23°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 500 metres (1640 feet) It is Just 37 KM away from Bijapur & 22 KM away from Sindagi.
Demographics
As of 2001[update] India census,[2] Devar Hipparagi had a population of 20,000. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Devar Hipparagi has an average literacy rate of 56%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 63%, and female literacy is 49%. 16% of the population is under 6 years of age. It has been given the status of Taluka recently. It gets its name because of many temples and the gods. Also have Astha Matha's of Lingayat community like Udupi for Brahmins. It has a very important credential during the Krantiyogi,Kayakyogi, Bhakti Bhandari,Kalyanda Basavanna's period. One of the important Sharana by the name VEERGANTI MADIVAAL MAACHITANDE belongs to this place & now also we can see his Matha & Temple. This town has all cast & stream of people and stay very harmoniously.
The major Jaatre are held in the DASARA,UGADI & SHRAVAN. At the DASARA festival period their will be of RAUTRAYAN JAATRE and this gives pictures of "unity in diversity" essence. Beauty of this JAATRE will not starts & concludes without involvement of all cast & community of the Indian social networks.
The major temples of this towns are MALLAYYA,RAUTARAYA,KASHILINGA,MADIVALESHWAR,KARIDEVRU, HEMGANA PRADHANI,BAANATI GUDI, to name the few.All the temples & presiding gods have their own legacy & importance. One monument beautifully built by the name MAALGUMB(DEEPSTUMB)stands since century in MALLAYANA GUDI premises and one can reach its peak by inside steps. Their is say that in the town that "in olden days deepa will be lit on the peak & it can be seen from Golgumbaz at BIJAPUR easily.
