Pekka's brother [[Pasi Koskela]] was also world cup -level speed skater, and he is nowadays head coach of Finnish speed skating national team. Pekka Koskela has been training with his local Seinäjoki coach Aimo Klemetsö since boyhood. Since 2006 Pekka Koskela has been responsible of his speed skating training. Physical coach has been from year 2011 Teemu Rauhala from Kuortane sports institute. There is no indoor speed skating arena in Finland.
