Best Known
Jeremy's best work ever is in the GOD MADE VELCRO Rock Music Video, Shock The Mind. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljbTBjvTNv0 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jeffry Sporleder (talk • contribs) 19:40, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
I deleted the unsupported assertion below, since a) it's unsupported b) i don't think it's true (guy's been working for decades, a cable-only series is hardly his standout character) and c) it's non-neutral.
He is best known for his role as Ari Gold on the critically acclaimed HBO television series Entourage.
- It's probably true, but without a source, you're right in removing it. Sandwiches99 (talk) 19:15, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
This is back for some reason but I completely agree that it should be gone. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.158.18.80 (talk) 06:30, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Electrolysis on Chest Hair?
If you see earlier films of his, you will know Jeremy Piven has a chest as hairy as Alec Baldwin's or Robin Williams'. However, in later films, his chest is smooth as a baby's bottom. Did he do electrolysis on his chest? If so, what a shame!? Please add info to the article if you have any. Thanks. jcm 2/13/12 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chumley41 (talk • contribs) 06:37, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
Greek affiliation
I find Piven's college fraternity affiliation to be rather unencyclopedic. It's also uncited, so I've therefore removed it from the article. Thoughts? Esrever (klaT) 03:32, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
- It depends. Its ok for a brief mention if there is a verifiable source and if the section is already discussing his college experience, but going into unnecessary detail would violate WP:UNDUEWEIGHT. The Bookkeeper (of the Occult) 03:40, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
piven in rocknrolla
Piven plays the character Mickey NOT ROMAN in that film. Ludacris aka Chris Bridges plays ROMAN. This has been confiremed by IMDB.COM, MOVIES.YAHOO.COM and through various late night interviews done by chris bridges and piven who both stated their character names when discussing the film and setting up the scenes for the previews shown to the viewers 67.167.180.64 (talk) 14:24, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Piven guest host
I removed the line referring to Floyd Mayweather as a heel in the WWE; Mayweather was never a guest host and his appearance wasn't that of a heel, Big Show was the heel in that feud. The only reason fans thought he was a heel was because the fans did not like the storyline. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.68.180.75 (talk) 01:24, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
Is there any reason why his guest host stint is no longer mentioned on this page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sepmix (talk • contribs) 15:33, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Filmography
Removed the link to Paul Higgins in the list. That Paul Higgins has nothing to do with the character he played. People, please, please check what you're linking to before you make links. Sandwiches99 (talk) 19:14, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
Jewish categories
Per WP:BLPCAT we cannot add this living person to any ethnic categories unless we have good sources that he self-identifies as such, and a consensus here that it is worth mentioning. --John (talk) 21:15, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
- John, BLPcat does not apply as you say in this case. Regardless, Jeremy Piven is Jewish - the intro explicitly says he was raised in a Jewish household. Can you please self-revert until you find a consensus that suggests that Piven is not Jewish?? WikifanBe nice 23:13, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
- John, are you going to self-revert? Both Piven's parents are Jewish. He considers himself Jewish. Even if we consider blpcat (which imo does not apply) Piven easily meets the threshold. You did not remove the category until I linked you to the article. Piven has been listed as a Jew unchallenged for how many years? WikifanBe nice 21:09, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
- Is his Jewishness relevant to the article? Is it mentioned in the article? Is it referenced? Has he self-identified? When we have a consensus that the answer to all these questions is "yes", then we can include this category. --John (talk) 15:35, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

- John—But we have the following:
- The above is Jeremy Piven speaking. In this edit you remove Jeremy Piven from Category:Jewish actors. Given that we have him conveying sentiments such as the above, on what basis would you remove Jeremy Piven from Category:Jewish actors? Bus stop (talk) 16:02, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
- "Is his Jewishness relevant to the article?" John, we need a consensus showing he is not Jewish - the category has been in the article for quite some time, because sources show he was brought up in a Jewish household and even considers himself Jewish. Piven is an ethnic Jew (both his parents are Jewish), John. Have you read the article or did you just remove the category after I linked it the other article discussion? This isn't controversial, if you want to challenge what the wikipedia community considers to be the litmus test for Jewishness I suggest you start a discussion at the appropriate noticeboard. WikifanBe nice 17:46, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
- "Jewish" is an ethnic group and a people, not only a religion. That is a fact. That is why we still have "Category:Jewish actors" but not "Category:Catholic entertainers". As BLPcat does not apply to ethnicity, it does not apply to "Jewish" categories. In fact, not only is "Jewish" an ethnicity, according to Newsweek, "Jewish" is one of the most homogeneous ethnic groups ("one of the most coherent genetic groups that exist", according to Jon Entine). I solemnly agree with User:All Hallow's Wraith. John, imo, is being unreasonable. Brendon is here 00:02, 27 May 2012 (UTC)- My bad, the issue is already resolved.. Brendon is here 00:07, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Content dispute - Music video
I'm posting this here in hopes of getting a third opinion on the matter since the other user and I seem to be at loggerheads.
User:Dr Shempenstein and I have been going back and forth on this point, mostly on my talk page here. They have been adding information about Piven appearing in a music video for a band called God Made Velcro (No Wikipedia article) called "Shock The Mind". I have been removing this mention for several reasons:
- The video appears to be recorded from MTV or some other video channel and is possibly a copyright violation. It's not posted from a record company's account, the account of the band, or any other official looking account name. The account name appears to be someone's real name. The surname of which matches the video's director's surname but that is the only obvious connection. Without rights to the video being obvious or declared, I've been removing it.
- The band is not notable. I've done various Google searches and cannot find anything that suggests that they even might be notable.
- The song is not notable.
- I can't find any reliable sources that mention Piven and this band, so I don't see why it's worth mentioning.
As far as I can tell, he probably appeared in the video as a favor to a friend but can't confirm that since I can't find any other mention of this other than postings on various forums and message boards. Dr Shempenstein has said that it should be mentioned in the article because "it is truth". They have also claimed to be a friend of the subject which, if true, means that they have a clear conflict of interest. Considering the doggedness with which they are pursuing this would suggest that they cannot maintain a neutral point of view on the matter and thus should not be editing the article.
Note: They have also been editing the Gregory Sporleder article with much the same information and seem to only be here on Wikipedia to promote themselves or this video. I have stopped editing this article for now due to WP:3RR. Dismas|(talk) 03:59, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
Response to third opinion request ( inclusion of music video ): |
I am responding to a third opinion request for this page. I have made no previous edits on Jeremy Piven and have no known association with the editors involved in this discussion. The third opinion process is informal and I have no special powers or authority apart from being a fresh pair of eyes. |
From what I can see, the music video does not seem relevant or notable enough to warrant inclusion in the article. Certainly it's obscure enough (and has enough potential issues with conflict of interest and copyright) that it should not be included absent a consensus. I think unless a particularly compelling reason for inclusion is presented here it's appropriate to revert the edit. I'll put this on my watchlist, so if User:Dr Shempenstein continues to put it back in the article we can keep the status quo without you going over 3R. Wieno (talk) 07:58, 5 February 2014 (UTC) |
- Thank you, Wieno, for your opinion. I appreciate it and hope that this can be put to rest now. Dismas|(talk) 08:59, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
