A different version of the song (known as the Early Version) is available as a bonus track on the 12" single (and subsequently on reissues of the album on CD) this early version was recorded in 1981 as part of early sessions for the album, ''I, Assassin''. There is also another early version, which was discovered on the studio [[master tapes]] when [[Beggars Banquet Records]] remastered the album in 1999, though this has never been released. The extended version features a lengthy [[fretless bass]] solo by [[Pino Palladino]].

Being one his biggest hits, the song has been played frequently on live tours throughout Numan's career.

Released as the second single from his I, Assassin album, it reached number nine in the UK Singles Chart (the biggest of three Top 20 hits from the album and Numan's last Top 10 hit to date).[1] It holds the distinction of having the shortest chart life of any Top 10 hit ever since the official UK chart was expanded to a Top 75, at just four weeks.
