Biography
Gwak Dong-yeon made his show business debut as "Bang Janggoon" in the Korean Family Drama My Husband Got A Family on 25 February 2012. Gwak is also currently known as the singer trainee of FNC Entertainment (home of Korean idols like F.T. Island, CNBLUE, Juniel, AOA, and N.Flying).
Gwak has been studying bass technology at FNC Academy since 2009, along with N.Flying's members, AOA's members, and actor Song Sehyun. At first, he played guitar and bass guitar before tried to learn acting. On 8 February 2013 he graduated from Yeongdeungpo Middle School. [2] Gwak is now attending Seoul School of Performing Arts.[3]
Acting Activities
Gwak Dongyeon gained recognation after featuring in the KBS TV series My Husband Got a Family (넝쿨째 굴러온 당신) , played as "Bang Janggoon". [4] "Bang Janggoon" is a unique-erratic character of a middle high school boy. The character has a good feedback from the viewer and leads Gwak to achieve "Best Child Award" in 2012 6th Korean Drama Festival. In this drama, Gwak also played with his label-mate actor, CNBLUE's Kang Min-hyuk who played as "Cha Segwang", "Bang Janggoon"s private tutor. With the drama always ranked #1 and even peaked at 49,6%, Gwak also got the big attention for being in the drama.
On April 2013, Gwak acted as Young Prince Dongpyung in SBS historical drama Jang Ok-jung, Living by Love. On the following month he got another role for KBS Drama Special Adolescence Medley, played as the lead actor "Choi Jeongwoo".[5] The drama has been aired during 10 July-31 July 2013, catching the viewer attention for the nostalgic teenage scenes. Per 6 February 2014 KBS “Puberty Medley” has the most viewers on KBS World TV Youtube Channel - Drama Special list. From this drama, he got the prize from Korea Communications Standards Commision on September 23th.
On 10 September 2013, his label FNC Entertainment stated that he got another new role for KBS new drama "Age Of Feeling". [6]He acted as young Shin Jung Tae (adult played by Kim Hyun-joong). The drama was originally scheduled to air beginning in November 2013, but due to the extensive overseas filming, the series has been postponed to January 2013. [7]Through this drama Gwak got his first chance to go abroad to film drama in China. Appeared in 4 first episodes, 15 days since the drama was aired, Gwak received the most attention, got noticed by his first inning showing his sharp eyes and his steady acting.[8]
Singer Trainee and Guitarist of Kkokkoma Band
Although Gwak Dongyeon has debuted as a young actor, he has the identity as the singer/musician trainee of FNC Entertainment. He showed off his music ability with singing and playing guitar in My Husband Got A Family drama. He even sang for the drama OST "Ce Song" with Yoo Jun-sang and his on screen father, Kim Sang-ho. On November 2012, he sang a duet song “BABO” with his label-mate singer JUNIEL on wedding party of FNC’s Director of Entertainment Department, Kim Youngsan.[9] In Adolescence Medley drama he even did cover of Kim Kwang-seok's "Be Forgotten" and Lee Juck's "Running in The Sky".
Through reality drama tvN "Cheongdamdong 111" Gwak's training life has been exposed to public. He is the member of trainee band named "Kkokkoma Band", means band that consists of little kids. Consist of Gwak Dongyeon (born 1997), Oh Heejun (born 1996), Lee Hweechan (born 1996), and Seo Dongseong (born 1996), the band has been found three months before "Cheongdamdong 111" filming. Gwak is the youngest of the band and in charge of the lead guitarist. He got his private guitar lesson from CNBLUE's Lee Jong-hyun. Together with Kkokkoma members under CNBLUE mentors, Gwak won the trainee battle against F.T. Island's mentees. They performed "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" by The Beatles, the legendary band that Gwak wants to be like.
