Thank you for you contributions to Wikipedia at-large and helping to keep the backlog down. We hope you continue reviewing submissions and stay in touch at the talk page. Good work on Judith Newman
Thanks for all your work on Judith Newman. Now it reads like an encyclopedia article rather than a press release. Don't apologize for all the edits; you systematically found references. I wish more articles I reviewed would get followed up on and fixed. StarryGrandma (talk) 06:15, 9 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, StarryGrandma (talk), I appreciate it! I felt like we Wikipedians needed to rally! (In case you didn't see it -- Wikipedia, What Does Judith Newman Have to Do to Get A Page? - I love that the Wiki article will already exist when the print edition of this story runs tomorrow!) Julie
- Please allow me to add my own +1 to what @StarryGrandma: said above. Good job. Philippe Beaudette, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 08:09, 9 January 2014 (UTC)
- Philippe Beaudette, Wikimedia Foundation (talk), Thanks so much! And - as it should be - a bunch of editors have jumped in and made the article stronger than it was. NYT hasn't run an update yet, but I'm sure they will soon - psyched to see what it will say. JSFarman (talk) 15:22, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

- Thanks for your message on my page. Moncrief did the hard work. I just added some odds and ends. But it's obvious that Newman is notable, so I was happy to contribute. BTW, I thought that Newman's article in the NYT was poorly researched, particularly with regard to her statements about paid editors - she obviously did not talk to any really experienced editors here, or they could have explained to her why paid editing is a very bad idea. And, I find it very annoying that journalists like Newman, who have some understanding of our editorial process, and who use Wikipedia constantly, think it's fun to criticize us so broadly, when we get so much right and are putting together one of the greatest free resources in the world. I guess it wouldn't be much fun to write an article saying "Wikipedia is really great, and if you find a mistake, you can point it out, giving a citation to a reliable source, and let editors here fix it." -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:06, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- Ssilvers (talk) Major props to you! You had strong feelings about Judith's article, but put everything aside and, with a commitment to neutrality, made the article better. (There's a follow-up running in the NYT soon, and I have no doubt that Judith's been educated about how incredible Wikipedia editors can be.) JSFarman (talk) 00:29, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
- Oh, good. Well, let's see what it says. I still think that Newman ought to read WP:COI regarding paid editing, or even take a look at the wonderful book: Wikipedia – The Missing Manual. -- Ssilvers (talk) 01:15, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
Greg Kurstin
Hey JSFarman, I've just added the songs you requested on the Greg Kurstin production discography page. You can check it out now. Happy New Year! Chihciboy (talk) 05:38, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
- You rule, Chihciboy (talk)! Thank you so much. Someday I'll learn how to mark up fancy charts, I promise. Happy New Year to you too - hope it's a great one. Julie JSFarman (talk) 15:18, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
DYK for Judith Newman
On 18 January 2014, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Judith Newman, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that journalist Judith Newman wrote a New York Times article asking Wikipedians to help craft an entry about her? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Judith Newman. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Precious
challenge and admiration
Thank you, music expert and lover from the Rathskeller, for quality articles on personalities caused by "Oh my god, how can (blank) not have a Wikipedia page?", by challenge (Judith Newman) and admiration (Patti Webster RIP), for serving articles for creation and copy-editing, for "Every article I've ever worked on (COI or not) has been improved by other editors." - you are an awesome Wikipedian!
Approving music wiki pages
Hi! I know you approved my "Rich Kidz" wiki page a few months ago. Would you mind checking over two new ones that I made and move it to the mainspace if they're good to go?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Cherub_(musical_duo) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Magic_Man_(band)
Thank you!
Lisachinny (talk) 15:28, 21 April 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Lisachinny (talk), I moved Cherub to the mainspace, although I deleted that they were associated with MGMT and Chromeo -- I didn't see how they were associated. Please feel free to re-add it if there's a legitimate reason to do so (and it can be sourced). I also changed the wording re: their album from "it will be released" to it is "scheduled" to be released, as release dates can slip. I declined Magic Man. I think it's WP:TOOSOON. Thanks for your contributions! Julie JSFarman (talk) 17:01, 21 April 2014 (UTC)
Many thanks for this - I will revert. Kind regards Hugh Wimpole3 (talk) 13:12, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Can you please help, discouraged. So little real help.
I've been working on this page for 6 months - edited it 60+ times. Just seems that no matter what I change the next reviewer criticizes something different.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Forte_Tenors
I am autistic, and this is my first attempt at a Wikipedia article. I never knew it would be this hard. With some of what I've seen on here, I thought I'd done a good job, but every reviewer seems to disagree. You are the only one who has been genuinely helpful. Please help.. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jawillia (talk • contribs) 19:10, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- I know how you feel -- I've had a few articles repeatedly declined. Try not to be discouraged -- you have done a good job. Creating an article can be difficult, and sometimes it's just a matter of editing, persevering, and editing some more. I'm glad that I've been of some help
- The problem with the article remains the tone. Try including the band members in one paragraph, and don't include more than a sentence about each of them, and reduce the sentence to relevant points only. When you list the events, consider including only the two most prestigious -- Carnegie Hall and the Tree Lighting Ceremony -- as otherwise it seems like a laundry list of accomplishments.
- The overall issue is that the article sometimes reads like a press release. Even though it's not your intention, in places the article is written in a promotional style, i.e.: "Having once been laughed at in his audition for the music department at the University of Central Florida, Fernando Varela has now performed in 31 countries across the globe." It may be a fact, but it's got a point of view, and we need to be neutral. Can you go back through the article and rewrite it with your focus strictly on maintaining a straightforward, unbiased perspective? I'm happy to give it another look (and another edit if it's necessary).
- Thanks for your diligence, and thanks for getting in touch. Nice to (sort of) meet you. Julie JSFarman (talk) 20:54, 24 April 2014 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:GregKurstin2013.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:GregKurstin2013.jpg, which you've attributed to A VRT notice was applied over 60 day(s) ago, but no message at VRTS has been found since this tag was applied.. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. Review for Deletion
Reference link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Catona
Hi thank you got your message. I added this page for Gary Catona. The reference I had put in as links to his PR, personal page and etc. Please let me know what others references is needed?
I saw he was also listed as a vocal coach under Wikipedia so I had added that as well.
Thanks again Julisita — Preceding unsigned comment added by • contribs) 04:23, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
- The references need to be from independent sources. The two that you've used aren't independent - one is a press release, and the other is Gary's site. In order to establish notability, you need to show that Gary's been written about extensively by independent, reliable sources. WP:N. Also, since you're writing so much about his life, you need to use inline citations so that the content can be verified. This is particularly important when you're writing about a living person. See WP:VERIFY. Also, please take a look at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons.
- I'm familiar with Gary, and there's a lot about him online. If you do some digging, you'll find it, and you can construct a great article based on what you find via reliable sources. Good luck! JSFarman (talk) 04:38, 14 May 2014 (UTC) Julie
